    That’s really the best way.

Sometimes the source material isn’t that easily trackable (for example, where do the parts of the face go when the hand moves in? Easy for us humans, hard for the computer). Of course this causes issues for the temporal part of DE:Noise to be able to do as good of a job as when things are more easily tracked.

And in those areas where the hand moves in front of the face, you might try a bit more spatial filtering if you feel too much noise is left after reducing the temporal settings.

June 19, 2009 at 9:36 pm in reply to: Reel Smart Motion Blur wont blur past Alpha

I’m guessing you don’t have the proper alpha in the vectors pass, and that areas outside the object have zero motion (yellow in the output vectors), with full alpha, rather than 0 alpha in areas outside the object in the vector pass. Are you turning off any background static objects or environment when rendering the motion pass?

In any event, you probably want to read this: https://www.revisionfx.com/support/faqs/motion_vector_FAQs/motion_vector_alpha/

You can always move this the RE:Vision Effects forum if you have further questions, etc.

We don’t have anything called QuickLicenseRT iin our plugins. This sounds like some other software, not ours.

Sorry I can’t be of more help other than to say it’s not RSMB.

You might try our Shade/Shape. If you can get the shape of the droplets/water, you can use Shade/Shape to reflect and refract. Look at the movies here: https://www.revisionfx.com/products/shade_shape/gallery/

In particular look at “Liquid Dancers” (the second movie) and the second to last (“Lens REflection”). Both effects were done simply by looking at the animated 2d mattes (one came from keying some footage, the other was made by hand).

By animating mattes or text in an appropriate way, you can get some really cool watery-looking stuff.

    Just a thought.

Also, have you seen this page?

Note that each image in the FAQ can be clicked on to get a larger image to view.

The instructions are for Max 8, but should work for Max 9.

No, I was talking about tracking artifacts.

Are you trying to go to a computer display via a webpage or YouTube? If so, then you do not want to introduce interlacing, or add pulldown which will introduce interlacing.

If you are going to a computer display at the end, you do NOT want to convert to 24p and then introduce pulldown. The artifacts you are seeing are the interlacing artifacts of introducing pulldown… which should ONLY be used if you are going to NTSC output for display on an interlaced monitor, which you are clear not doing.

    So I would either:
    a) apply Reelsmart Motion Blur and do not change frame rates, and do not render with fields
    b) apply Twixtor to go from 30p to 24p and output the movie at 24fps and do not render with fields, and do not insert pulldown. Just output a 24p movie.

Yes, you are correct. You could drop your 30p (which I presume is really 29.97 fps) into a 24p (really: 23.976 comp), then Add Twixtor and set Twixtor’s Input: Frame Rate to 29.97. Then you can have AE render-out 29.97 footage with pulldown to get the “film look.”

However, that introduces a world of studder, and opens you up to having artifacts (Twixtor will undoubtedly have some artifacts, like every other retiming software out there). I would instead simply add motion blur using ReelSmart Motion Blur to compensate for the difference in shutter speeds between video and film. Of course, many people think you must go to 24p to get the “film look”, and I disagree.

You can read more about our suggestions here: https://www.revisionfx.com/support/faqs/generalfaqs/video_like_film/ The solution I propose is in step 4 (you can ignore the part that describes deinterlacing the footage since you already have 30p footage).

    Cheers,
