Im trying to use ReelSmart Motion Blur’s RSMB Vectors 3.x to add motion blur to a scene Ive rendered in Softimage. Right now im just trying to test it on my character diffuse pass.

The diffuse pass has an alpha channel and im using a motion vector pass as the motion source…the motion vector pass was rendered with Softimage’s Mip Motion Vector output shader.

The problem im having is that while the motion data from the vector pass is blurring correctly inside of the character pass, it wont blur past the alpha ( that is it wont blur the edges of my characters )

Im not sure if the problem is with the motion vector sahder settings or if Im missing some setting for the RSMB Vectors effect.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I’m guessing you don’t have the proper alpha in the vectors pass, and that areas outside the object have zero motion (yellow in the output vectors), with full alpha, rather than 0 alpha in areas outside the object in the vector pass. Are you turning off any background static objects or environment when rendering the motion pass?

In any event, you probably want to read this: https://www.revisionfx.com/support/faqs/motion_vector_FAQs/motion_vector_alpha/

You can always move this the RE:Vision Effects forum if you have further questions, etc.
