Whether audio is captured at 32 bit or 32 kHz, FCP needs to render to 48kHz/16bit, the standard broadcast format. FCP is processing audio in 32bit (floating point), but does not import 32 bit audio files.

Try to find an application that can capture in FCP supported format.

  • Yes, Xena works on Leopard and on Bootcamp/XP.

  • Sorry, my mistake: I actually have Xena on OSX.

  • I have Kona LHe on Bootcamp/OSX 10.4 for over a year.

No issues here. Nuendo 4, FCP2 with Kona LHe.
Video plays fine during realtime export, 1080i25 format.

Is this a hardware or software issue?

I mean, if HD preview with ioHD can’t be enabled then Kona is a better solution for us. A word from Aja would be welcome, but their support lately is less than optimal.

I noticed another similar limitation of ioHD compared to Kona. With Kona, I can display full HD video while doing audio post with Nuendo, but with ioHD there is no picture. It might have to do with fw800 connection perhaps.

You need both, DA converters plus level matching.
AJA has servo balanced outputs which do increase level by 6 dB when you connect pin 3 to ground.

You would probably do better and even save some $$ with an audio interface like M-Audio FireWire 410:

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Firewire410

It has eight -10dB outputs which you can connect directly to receiver inputs – unless you have one of those 10k$ hi fi monsters with golden XLR’s..

    Hi Drazen,

I use Aja LHe this way and the quality of downconversion is great. I do audio post, and can monitor HDV or ProRes on full HD lcd monitor(with Aja Hi5 or HDP converters), and simultaneously SD on analog Sony monitor. I alway prefer analog monitor for audio sync check and analog color looks much better to me too.

Before you jump into ioHD I can show you how it looks on LHe, we live in the same city. I also have an ioHD on order, but Aja just moved the delivery date for another 4-6 weeks, on top of 24th September that was announced on IBC.

    regards,
    Peter
