Hi, that ATI card works, the issue is power. You need to power the two cards and i believe the 5870 needs two connections. Then you need to power the GTX570. If this will be in an external expander then you are ok.
Please refer to the config guide as we show all these details.

Hi, the flags are associated with the source clip so you can add them in the Media pool, conform and color page. Markers are associated with the timeline record timecode. It sounds like you need to use markers but would like them to be more obvious.

Hi Anthony, Resolve only captures to dpx files so you need a fast disk system for that and you dont detail the speed info in your post. We do not support AVI but do support many professional codecs. Consider using DNxHD.

Hi David, do you have the GUI monitor plugged into the ATI card and nothing into the Q4000?
If so, next to try is to set the video monitoring (project settings, master settings) to 8 bit and in scaling set the scalling to bilinear.
The Q4000 is not idea for image processing. We normally recommend that for the GUI card and a more powerful processor, like the GTX570 for processing but the ideas above may help.

When you make a qualification its based on the image presented so while grading at a lower decode res gives you real time, it also provides less data to the image processor for qualification. As you mentioned, most clips were fine and thats consistent with what we see. The workflow you have now is valid but it pays to check your grades in the final res settings.

Hi, use the q4000 for UI and Adobe, GTX285 for Resolve image processing. On a MacPro you may have a power issue. There are other posts that discuss options but one thats cheap is using the spare DVD power cable.

Hi Sean, as per your question on AAF round trip, it sounds like you have a number of operational issues that prevent successful roundtrip.
The basic requirement is; Every clip should be uniquely identified.
That can be done by a combination of timecode, reel name, file name, path, frame count etc. These can be set up in the conform settings and if your clips have two or three of these conditions correct then XML and AAF round trip will be reliable. Note: Duplicate use of the same clip is valid with conditions.
The manual has a chapter called, “before you conform” which is valuable for everyone who wishes to round trip.

HI, As you have an Avid, consider using DNxHD for your Avid and Resolve I/O. It’s a good codec and quite manageable. If all your VFX shots can be rendered or transcoded to this format then you can place them in the Avid or Resolve as you need.

Hi, you can not ‘improve’ the picture by transcoding it. However some file are easier to manage than others. ProRes is one of the easier ones. Consider 422 HQ as your working codec and do a test on three clips. It may just show you thats fine for the source footage you have.
An I would do all the grading in Resolve. It’s 100x faster.
