July 30, 2011 at 2:18 am in reply to: Decklink SDI to HDLink to Dsiplay Porrt coming in as extended Desktop?Hi David, I’m not really sure how you have this connected so back to basics.
Resolve UI monitoring is from the computer graphics card, usually via DVI or mini display port. The video output appears on the Decklink hd-sdi BNC and with the right card also the hdmi out. Normally you would connect the HD-SDI from the Decklink to the Hd-link and then the hdLink display port to your grading monitor. There is no ui out on the hd-sdi of the Decklink so if you are seeing that I think you may have it cabled incorrectly.
Does this help?

I feel it depends on the images and available time. Sometimes its good to NR prior to grading a clip so the qualifiers are not using noisy material. It can make the keys cleaner. Then again, NR of all the material prior to grading can un-necessarily soften the image at great expense of time and quality. Sometimes a little NR in dark sections of the image can make a previously unusable shot, perfectly ok and so I have seen NR applied in pre-edit previews to decide if a ‘take’ or scene is usable or not. Applying NR on all the material after the grade is often done on a time vs quality vs $$ basis and you can generally you can only pick two of this set at one time.
In 8.0 you can apply NR in a node, anywhere in the node graph; and qualify just a color, luminance or masked region to apply the NR. Performance is GPU based and we have been testing 2K realtime NR on our linux machines for a while now. Even the MacPro with dual CUDA GPUs can apply real time NR at HD res.

8.0 also has a one button based database backup and restore feature which will be helpful for many users.
I also will by the end of the month publish a how to make a Mac database server for those who want to share projects between two Macs.

Hi, Chris is correct that there is a Database server installer on the Linux DVD but it is possible to set one up on a Mac. I have been thinking of documenting this for a Mac db Server so if you PM Adam me we can run a test and go from there.

Hi, the RED clip settings are made via the RED SDK to the r3d decoder prior to the RGB data entering the Resolve image processing. When you make versions in Resolve, this is adding a new correction to the clip, but the RED settings are for the whole clip because thats prior to Resolves corrector.
What settings are you trying to change? Normally you can set the ISO and color space for a whole scene once and if the other settings are adjusted its to get the r3d images in the flat range so Resolve can grade them.
As for the stability issues you have, please contact davincihelp@blackmagic.com with the details and they can help you with log reporting so they can get to the source of your problem.

Michael, please email davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com so an engineer can follow up with your specific issue.

Hi, there are a couple of items to check here. You mention that you could not use the cinemascope option and Im assuming this is the one in the conform project settings? Did you have the input scaling set to ‘scale entire image to fit’?
You don’t clearly mention if you tried setting the pixel aspect ratio for these in the media pool. In the media pool select all that need changing at one time, right click and select ‘change pixel aspect ratio’,set to cinemascope and see if that helps.
We have a lot of users that shoot a mix of square and anamorphic so these should work.
