Hi John
I l like your reply as I have never had a problem with Blu ray discs failing after some time like I have had DVDs failing as they get older .
However If I go into a TV retail store I see new 4k tvs showing “demo” movies that are of excellent quality and stored on a hard drive ( because they are not available on disc anyway).
How do they obtain this high quality 4k footage? what render format are they using on their Hard drives that plays on tvs?

Thanks for the input so I will save my DVDs/Blu rays on Hard drives.
Now what I need to know is if I just copy the dvds/Blu rays from the original discs I end up with DVD/Vob files etc ot Blu ray M2ts files that’s fine but I cannot play these files on my TV if I plug the hard drive it ??
What is the best way to save my movies after I have edited them and put titles on etc so I can play them at full quality 1080x 1920 on my TV but still make discs off them if necessary ?

You are probably correct however I always worry about Hard drives ?
They are usually guaranteed for around 5 years and I have had them fail in less than that,
I am not sure about the newer SSD hard drives as they have mot been around long enough to find out ?

Just to let you know what I eventually did.
I sent one of my Blu ray burned discs to Panasonic support and they claimed it played fine for them.!.
I could not believe this as I had previously tried it in the same Panasonic model it 2 different stores and it did not work

To solve the problem I went back to the retailer who was very helpful and allowed me to change the Panasonic for a recorder manufactured by someone else (Samsung)
It is not as good a recorder as the Panasonic and is more difficult to use but it does play ALL my Blu ray discs !,

The discs are burned at the lowest speed.
On BD-RE that is 2x or BD-R 4x so there’s no problem there,
The “Key” as mentioned in John Rofano reply is that the discs work in older Panasonics and “other ” manufacturers players.

I was surprised to see you prefer DVDs ?
Higher resolution Blu ray is certainly a better picture especially for the larger screens now on the market,
….No No No …don’t even mention 4K !

You are of course quite correct in saying the “key” is the discs work in their other models it will be interesting to see Panasonic’s reply

I am writing the discs as I always do that is I create the content with Sony Vegas (properties set for Blu ray 1920×1080 50i)
( these settings are using Vegas “Match properties” icon.
.
I then create the Blu ray disc and menu in DVD architect with the same settings.

There cannot be anything wrong with these settings as they play in ALL the other recorders and players I have tried and of course in the very similar previous Panasonic model ?

I’m using Vegas Pro 12, and in the ProType Titler, I want change the color of the text like you however,
I want to change the color to the exact same as I have used on previous projects,
Usually I just change the numbers and it’s done .
I have tried this in Vegas 12 and it does not work?
When I change the numbers I have tried pressing “enter” on the keyboard, I have tried just closing the dialog box, In fact I have tried everything and the color just reverts to what it was when I opened the dialog box,
I want a color 105,0,43,255 which is what I usually input in previous versions of pro titler and it just won’t change
What am I doing wrong ?

yes John I could not agree with you more Widows 8 is a big step backwards for the Desktop computer,
My favourite button has become the windows button to try and get some sort of normality to the system
I have been running window 8 for a month on one of my computers with Vegas 12 pro and some parts worked OK but I could not render anything in mp4 , avc, all I get is double images the same fileS work fine in window 7
my tip to everyone.
KEEP WELL AWAY FROM WINDOWS 8 !
