In system profiler click on Software. 64-bit Kernel and Extensions gives you the answer. I don’t know if your machine defaults into 32 or 64 bit Kernel or if it can actually run in 64bit. Also, it may not be related to your output issues but it cannot hurt to give it a shot.
If you are in 32bit mode, hold down 6 and 4 while booting next time, if your machine allows booting into 64bit it then will. -
Works ok for me (not perfect but “will do” for the moment), but I have a different tower. Just out of curiosity, are you booting into the 32bit Kernel?

Hi Walter,
previewing prores material on an external monitor has been working reasonably ok so far. Sometimes it hangs or I have to go play/stop/play for it to work again but… it is doable. I chooe an AJA preset, then I changed the sequence codec to prores rather than uncompressed (although that only seems to be relevant to the preview render files as it seems I always have to do a full render when outputting a file or outputting to tape directly from within premiere).
My problem is that I have to deal with 6 – 8 hours of new 1080 footage per week that comes to me either directly as Prores Files or on HDCAM and I need to keep this stuff around for at least 6 month, often much longer,. So I need to find a workflow with a codec that has a relatively small footprint in order to keep storage requirements at a sane level. I wished there was a codec native to Adobe in the way Prores is to FCP or DNxHD to Avid.
More testing on my end, too, in the coming weeks.

Capturing via the Aja app is not a problem. Also previewing prores material on an external monitor is ok (a bit shaky at time but doable). I am, in general, trying to figure out the best way to work with Prores within Premiere. I have a ton of Prores material that I need to go back to quite often, mostly with only minor modifications (new tites, a few hard cuts). I guess I am just a bit confused by the render philosophy of Premiere in general as I can create a prores timeline but even with only hard cuts applied it looks as if I always have to render the whole lot when exporting to tape or file.

Hi Gary,
thanks for the reply. I do have Prores installed. So, one should think that I could create a Prores capture setting the same way I can when opening the Aja supplied capture application (which, as you know, can also capture Prores if it is on the machine) . Or the ability to capture 3D content via the Kona 3G and Cineform (which also requires Cineform to be installed but once it is there it is possible).

Hi Thomas,
fellow German switcher from FCP to Premiere here (though also looking at Avid).
I managed to get results with both, AJA and BMD. There are still issues and it isn’t as smooth as we are used to with FCP but it is doable and there’s a good chance now it will get better. What are your settings? What material are you using?
I am currently in an all-prores workflow because of all the FCP stuff. What works best for me is to go with an uncompressed setting from the AJA or BMD presets, that gives me the most stable output. Let me know, glad to help where I can. -
Take a step back, look at Apple and how they deal with their customers and then read this regarding Adobe:
https://jefferyharrell.tumblr.com/post/7022691098/a-story-as-yet-untoldNow, regardless of what happens with FCP X (not much if you ask me), you can decide how you want to be treated and whom you give your money.

So why don’t they speak up then, announce what will be added, reassure people, give some sort of a roadmap?
Not Apple’s style? Well, then they deserve the boot. Quite simple. Arrogance hardly every pays off in the long run.
Other companies are actually capable of talking to their users:

And actually…. he was quite right. Just in a different way than we all imagined. -
Hi Dexter,
I know but I need to go in with a Blackmagic Card (or Kona) and out. So I have to choose a setting that came with that card and Prores isn’t there. It’ll only show up if choose Desktop for my preview. I can modify a setting but then I have only preview of the source footage, not the timeline.
It’s weird because one can also capture via those card’s own IO apps into Prores. My guess is that they had a deal with apple that allows them to do that, in return disable it for any application apart from Final Cut (which now also can’t capture anymore, lol).
Can anyone verify that I cannot capture into Prores from within Premiere on a Mac?Another issue I am having is that, with a given setting from one of the cards, I get video and audio out to the monitor or tape but during editing I cannot get it to a connected audio interface. I have tried in the settings for audio but to no avail.
Tnx,
Peter
