The Apple PhotoJpeg codec is used very much as an output codec for stock footage, but imho not the best one for working since it uses heavy compression.
Many people use the Cinfeorm-codec or the free Avid DNxHD-codec for editing and then output to their desired format.

Concerning audio: With the 60D you can do manual audio adjustment. But nevertheless I’d look for an external audio recorder plus microphone, if audio is important to you. The in-built mic is not really the way to go, even for ambient sounds.

With external audio you can get as close to the audio source as you want and you won’t record any “camera-operation sounds”.

Magic Lantern will be available for the 60D as well and it’s definitly worth a look.
I use it with my T2i and it boosts the usability extremely with all the new features like “focus peaking”, “rack focussing” etc.

Haven’t done any (serious) macro shots, but as with all canons: shoot with internal sharpening all the way down and introduce sharpness in post. Moiré will be even a bigger issue if you use 720p rather than 1080p. So it’s best to use Full HD, imho.

So, checked my HDDs with a SMART tool. Fortunately no problems with the drives displayed.
So the damaged file seems to be just an unlucky accident. Thought maybe someone had a similar problem (and solved it) or this issue is a known problem.

Jup! That went through my mind as well. If it’s really the drive, I maybe was lucky to encounter the problem through my laziness of not transcoding and your theory before all the data on the drive goes *kaboom* 😉

What I find strange is, that this happend only with a wmv. Once in a while AE freezes on my system during import of various files (from various drives), but they never went corrupt…

So, I’ll get a SMART tool and monitor the drives.
