For “just” video: Not much difference between the 5DMkII and T2i (especially when using Magic Lantern). The 5DMkII has a slightly better low-light performance. But all in all: I would invest in lenses rather than the body.
If it goes for video *and* stills: Get the 5DMkII (or the 7D if you don’t need a full-frame sensor).

Like Noah wrote, is for monitoring audio only. You need a special cable for that.

Had that same problem with my T2i.
You could try mapping the pixel out: Switch off the camera, remove the lens, put the body cap on and switch the camera on.
In the menu chose “sensor cleaning” –> “clean manually”. After a few seconds switch the camera off. Now the dead pixel should be gone.
Should be working with any Canon DSLR.——————————————

Yes, the chroma sampling is fantastic. Very high quality! Since I did a lot of grading lately (in After Effects) 5D2RGB has become an invaluable tool for me!
I did a bit of experimenting and interestingly the transcoded footage looks closer to the native files, when using 601 than when using 709. With 709 I got a slight gamma shift, which I think is nothing too serious and can be corrected with no effort.
From what I read, the canon files are in sRGB which is closer to 709 (or even “includes” 709) than 601. I only have (very) basic knowledge of color-spaces, so I’m thankful for every bit of information.So thanks again!

Devon, I hope you don’t mind, when I chime in here.
Shane and Rafael, can you advise me, which Decoding Matrix to use best with 5DtoRGB?
When I shoot with the Technicolor Cinestyle, it’s clear – then I use the Technicolor Cinestyle decoding matrix.
But why is 601 available, it’s just for SD video, isn’t it? So I assume it’s for the SD capabilities of the Canons (which I don’t use).
Am I right or did I miss something?
Any advise greatly appreciated!

This is indeed strange… What would be interesting to know is, if the black bars do exist as real pixels in the footage or if the black bars do only exist “virtually” and are created in your player and/or NLE.
If the black bars are “baked” in the footage by the camera, either there is indeed a camera-feature that I don’t know of, or something is wrong with your camera and it needs maintenance.
Is there a way for you to upload a short native file somewhere, that shows the problem?

Some NLEs use special sub-programs like the “Media Encoder” with Premiere for rendering. That’s what I meant with “output module”…

Normally the PAR of your footage should be “square pixels”, I don’t know FCP good enough to guide you through, but there must be some feature to re-interpret footage and assign a PAR.

One way is to create a full-sized picture or video that has markings for the aspect ratio you like, show it on the monitor and tape it accordingly. You can prepare a foil (is that the correct english term?) with different cropping marks and put it on your monitor or screen.
If you have a Canon VDSLR (other than the 7D) you can use Magic Lantern and the provided cropmarks

Aspect ratio is the ratio of the width of the image to its height.
2.35 aspect ratio means the picture is 2.35 time wider than high.
For FullHD video (1920 x 1080): You simply divide the width (1920) by 2.35 to get the correspondent height
1920/2,35 = 817
So your 2.35 video is 1920 pixels wide and 817 pixels high.
