+1 for ClipWrap. Just use the re-wrap option, and select the AVCHD folder for the input. It will create a single output file from all of the input segments.

+1 for ClipWrap. I have the TM700, it works great. Had some fun using the 60p to go slow motion on my daughter’s taekwondo exhibition.

August 3, 2011 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Can FCP X import 60p clips directly without using programs like Clipwrap to re-wrap the footage? from panasonic tm700 sdt750 specificallyIt would be nice, but I’m not expecting any updates to FCP 7 now that FCP X is out.
Clipwrap works ok, just a different workflow and the small expense of buying it.
Please post back if you find out anything new about this. Thanks!

Avid is also offering a promo for folks switching from FCP. Both the Adobe and Avid promos expire the end of September. So I’m waiting a bit.
If you use Photoshop or Illustrator, the Adobe Production Premium suite promo makes a lot of sense for the price. I will probably wind up getting it…

I really like Win 7 and run it on the mac using VMware Fusion. But I really don’t see a long term future for the Mac Pro, given Apple’s track record of killing products that don’t have a large appeal…
IMO Windows still has a few issues that may never go away. First is the darned registry, seems to be an issue about once a year for me. Probably because I install a lot of development stuff, sometimes beta. Second is the bloatware issue. Because of the way that Windows uses library dlls, they wind up having to save old copies in the winxsx folder. So over time, your hard drive gets more and more copies of files that may or may not be needed.

Funny, I used the online chat yesterday on the Adobe site asking if there was a switch promo. Good things come to those who wait!

Yes, when you look at it from that perspective, the difference in cost is silly, if the buyer is seriously in the market. For example, if FCP X had 64 bit, background rendering, and maybe better integration with other apps, we probably would complain about the upgrade cost. But we would pay it.
But the difference between $299 and $1000 is not a significant barrier to entry for a first time purchaser, if they are serious about getting into pro editing.

June 29, 2011 at 12:21 am in reply to: Is the blindness that Apple showed in the FCPX release a portent of Apple’s future?I have to agree with you, sorry to say. Like the iCrap product name, maybe you should see if the domain name is available. We can all buy iCrap at the CrappStore!
Seriously, though, I don’t think there will be a Mac Pro in 3 years, just like you said. Xserve gone, rack mounted Mac Pros? Lots of other warning signs like many others have posted…
