Really? Never knew… Thanks for clarifying that!

[Juan Salvo] “Pepin is right with the diagnosis of the problem.
However, the correct way to do this conversion, would be to apply 709-xyz lut and render tiff as RGB.”
Totally right there Juan, sorry for the confusion, I forgot about that. I actually wonder why that output to XYZ TIFF option is in Resolve, as it seems to be unsuitable for any kind of use. You have a clue Juan?

I think you are apllying the conversion twice. Once with the LUT and the second time by rendering to TIFF XYZ.
So try with just the TIFF render options and see what they say.
But isn’t Clipster itself a better option to do the colortransform? I mean, isn’t it easier to deliver in TIFF RGB and let Clipster do the magic?
In my little experience doing DCP’s I never got a decent result out of Resolve. Luminance shifts and white point shift. (too yellow).

Hello Peter and Timo,
Thanks for your help!
I found the issue thru some help on another forum. I completely forgot about the ‘output scaling presets’, which were on ‘match timeline’ in this case. I never had any trouble before, cause I hadn’t done any 4k or 2k work since a while. When I was working in 2K I did notice that the image was slightly cropped on the sides on my monitor which should be the difference between seeing 2048 in a 1920 frame vs. 2048 scaled down to fit a 1920 frame.
Thanks again,

try setting up the project as 1920 by 1080 and go to the image scaling tab on the settings page and select ‘stretch frame to all corners’. Does that help?

Rightclick a shot thumbnail and choose ‘use local grades’.

Sometimes MORE means something else, like bigger. Try a 16mm grain. They are more ‘dirty’ and obvious.

[Juan Salvo] “I’m all for improvements… Danny said “This software has been gimped so heavily to sell Resolve panels it’s ridiculous.”… which is in itself a ridiculous statement. Software that used to cost a million dollars is now free! If it was gimped to sell panels, I’d think they kinda screwed up the gimping when they made it free.”
I agree on that, fully.
I don’t think BMD will sell less panels if they would implement the timecode entering via the keyboard, sales will not drop at all. It’s a minor issue.
BMD’s selling points for panels are (in my opninion):
1. No more clicking thru numerous menu’s (speed)
2. it looks good and thus attracts clientsI just assume the timecode thing wasn’t on their priority list so far. Probably we’ll see it in v10.

So should you leave something very simple out, even in the paid version? It makes no sense. And let’s look forward instead of backward, like Resolve used to be a million bucks, it’s not anymore, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved, right?
