Thank you for the detailed information.
I figured ShotPut would be easy but Don’s way seems much more streamlined.Gotta love Creative Cow for information like this.
It wouldn’t function if not for guys like you!Thank you.

September 15, 2008 at 10:18 pm in reply to: How would you record a very long training course on EX3?Thanks Don,
I was wondering if I had to hot swap or not.
My MacBook Pro can handle the cards.
Is it faster to use ShotPut Express or preset the file folders?Forgive my learning curve-Not only am I not using videotape, I am learning Mac and Final Cut Pro at the same time. Old guy-new tricks.
Be well.

Not sure beyond that.
Cool you got your gear back.
I do not expect to get mine back-I’m pretty sure it’s in a field. -

Video looked great! Even zoomed in a bit we had some really nice footage.
720/60p @ 125/sec.I rented a VariZoom EX and bought a 20′ cable to make the run inside.
I also rented a Sony RM-150 to paint with. It also controlled the menus just like it should in a CineAlta.Mounting to the Tyler Nose mount plate went well-even with only one screw in the camera.
A piece of rubber non-slip foam drawer liner between the plate and taped to the camera base worked great.Took off the shotgun mount and the viewfinder eyepiece and taped over the LCD to cut down wind.
See my “warning” post regarding battery release.

I have found the Sony tech support to be my go to for nearly all questions about the EX3

The EX3 is a marvelous camera not matter the ergonomics. I started out on a RCA tube camera recording to a Sony 110 “portable” 3/4″ deck in 1982 with NO shoulder pad on the camera. The EX3 feels like a little dove in my hands compared to that monster.
Back to today, just got off the phone with a shooter who bought the Fuji 13x.3.3 lens made for the XD series. He loves the lens-looks fantastic he said. But of course is is very front heavy.
He had Zacuto build a lens support since he worried about the stress to the camera at the 1/2″ lens adapter.Ergonomics are why I waited to buy the EX3-well that and the removable lens (yippee).
Granted it will never be the well balanced shoulder mount camera many of us are used to, but it is still amazing what has developed in this industry since the early days of “portable” video cameras.

A control just for the factory lens would be great-just a matter of how often it would get used vs cost.
How much did yours cost?
The Tyler Nose mount has cables and controls for standard zoom lenses.
Question is how to control record functions on the factory lens. -
I have a Tyler Nose Mount job coming up with my EX3.
I hope to get the remote so I can control the camera zoom, record, etc…
Any suggestions for settings would be helpful.
I’ll use a polarizer with the standard zoom lens. Shooting 720/60 maybe 125th sec or higher.
Client may want to slo-mo footage so 720/60 looks like my option. Thanks,
BTW. I used these setting on a speed boat shooting people wakeboarding. Footage looks great in slowed 50-35%. Stabilizer was on land helped a lot.

My EX3 is serial number 110. Got it here in Wisconsin late in July.
First real test was last week. I had the stabilizer on for the shoot at 720/60, 125th shutter, -3db.
I shot in full sun and needed the first ND setting to open the lens up at times. 2nd ND setting was too much at times with the -3db setting when I wanted to shoot into the shadows. Some of my settings for a High Saturation look (client wanted to see lots of color-pre-post).
Matrix: High Sat.
Level: +66
phase: 0
r-g: 0
r-b: 0
g-r: 0
g-b: -90
g-g: -44Knee setting: on
auto knee: off
point: 100
slope: +60
knee sat: 0Gamma: level:+25
Select: S+DIlow Key Sat: -4
I also stretched the blacks to +2.
I am tempted to stretch the blacks further from the look of my field monitor.
I found my field monitor (Marshall V-R84DP-HD) looks dark even hooded with the brightness cranked and set up with color bars. Not sure if I’ve set it up wrong or if it’s simply super black in the blacks.Anyway, the camera looks really nice overall and I love the SDI output. One cable out instead of component-nice.
At times I wished I had the additional wide lens, but for the most part I liked the image the lens has that the camera comes with.
I can’t wait for a job to come along that pays for a Letus. My client enjoyed the time lapse bit I did of a crew setting up a structure. 3 frames/second.
I am really enjoying this camera.
