    I downloaded Streamclip.
    Suggestion for output for FCP?
I’m trying Apple ProRes 422 right now.

    Thanks Curt,

I never knew Sony was helping us out and never even thought to look there! Duh.

Since I started on the Sony F-900 7 years ago, I know it pretty well. Which leads me to easily move into operation of the EX3 I bought last July.
I do not know what you mean when you say Apple does not want us to edit EX native?
That’s all I’ve been doing. Is it the render time?

Workflow has been sticky for many of us-especially guys like me who are shooters and now have to relearn edit software.

FCP has been, as we all know, a pain in the butt for guys like me. When I bought it, FCP seemed to be the software everyone had so that’s what I got and for now I’m stuck with it.

My latest project was quite a learning experience. Many DVD’s were burned and different settings used. Final output was great: FCP – Compressor in DVD Best Settings Mpeg2 6.2Mbps 2 pass – Studio Pro SD (same settings as Compressor). We also went h264 out for better quality files to display the video from a computer at a trade show.

I bought Noah’s DVD Studio Pro tutorial disc which delves very well into chapters and markers and many useful authoring issues. Noah did a great job cranking out the many thing Studio Pro can do.
Hindsight- I wish I has purchased the EX1 or EX3 DVD first.

  • The old clips are labeled with the old hard drive as location and the clips numbered properly.

I have tried to reconnect from the new drive which is also a mirror of the old ones.

I am starting to believe and have yet to find out if these clips in the timeline are in fact compressed in some way.

The last editor was experimenting with lots of different codecs and I think the best thing to do is re edit in a new sequence and cut and paste the graphics and key frames from the old sequence-at least those are available.

It is a 4 minute piece with relatively few edits.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Who goes into edit workflow deeper?

All my friends are dealing with FLC-Quicktime Conversion-Compressor-DVD Studio Pro-(at times) Toast.
Everyone seems to be having issues of one type or the other.

Which DVD author spells out setting, codecs, etc. better?

Noah, Does your EX1 video delve into this more than the other?

I’ve owned an EX3 since last July and have years on the F900, so I know how to paint pretty well.

    Thanks,

For those interested, this monitor will not input the signal from the Mac.
It is not designed for computers and needs a signal convertor.

February 16, 2009 at 8:00 pm in reply to: EX-3 (back?) – focus problem

There are a few posts related to this issue already.

Sony has a software upgrade ready. You need to contact Sony service and set up a warranted repair so the camera does not sit there forever in line with other repairs.

Sometimes powering the camera down, removing the battery for some time(?), will solve the focus issue.

    Best of luck.

February 4, 2009 at 1:51 am in reply to: EX3 Firmware update?

I just got my EX3 back from repair with the firmware upgrade.
I still am trying to find out what exactly my $100.00 went for.
Can’t get the tech on the phone for the past 2 weeks.
Anyone know what the upgrade is all about.

January 5, 2009 at 2:44 pm in reply to: carry on bag for EX-3

    Hi Guys,
    Long time since I’ve posted.
I rented my EX3 out for an overseas trip and did not have time/money to buy the PortaBrace or Kata.
So I headed off to the local Menards/Home Depot tool section and found a soft-side tool bag that the EX3 fit into. I brought the camera into the store to be sure.
Next off to the fabric store for some foam and black nylon fabric.
Cut out and hot glued blocks of foam together and covered with the nylon.
Not too bad a job protecting the viewfinder which as you know sticks way out there.

The tool bag rig cost about 60 bucks and functions very nicely. Snug fit with pockets for batteries and media. It even had a carry strap.
