  • Is it possible to reconnect missing media in timeline from other source than it is searching for?

I have taken over a project which has missing media (EX Clips) in the timeline.

I have tried to reconnect media from a different location (my hard drive) than the original edit came from.
Now I do have all the clips on both SxS cards and imported into FCP from XD transfer into a new browser located on my external hard drive.

I do not have the hard drive which was used to edit this timeline.

Basically, I have all the data in FCP but cannot figure out how to reconnect it in the timeline.
The location options when I do a locate or search for missing media do not let me locate these clips.
They keep looking for the missing hard drive and associated clips.

Do I have to edit what has already been edited?

    Help please.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Do your newly imported clips have the same names as the old clips? Are you changing the disk to search when you are trying to reconnect? You change the disk while in the reconnect process. Just select the disk you want to search or select all your disks and let FCP find the clips.

The old clips are labeled with the old hard drive as location and the clips numbered properly.

I have tried to reconnect from the new drive which is also a mirror of the old ones.

I am starting to believe and have yet to find out if these clips in the timeline are in fact compressed in some way.

The last editor was experimenting with lots of different codecs and I think the best thing to do is re edit in a new sequence and cut and paste the graphics and key frames from the old sequence-at least those are available.

It is a 4 minute piece with relatively few edits.

    Thanks,

    Paul
