    Hi John!

Once the clip is in the timeline if you select it (click on it) then you can use shift and the up and down cursor keys to go back and forth between markers on the clip.
To cut it you can either use the blade

    OR

Control V will cut a clip where ever the playhead is.

    hope this helps!

  • Another option is to use the “shared” folder on each machine as your storage for export settings (located at HD>users>shared) but each person will have to copy the preferences to the compressor folder as Alan suggested.

    OR

If all the machines have the same software, you could set a “droplet” for the compression settings and each person could get a copy of that self executing file – they then drop an exported copy of their timeline to the droplet and it compresses with compressor to the format the droplet is set to.

    OR

There is a “master user” template in the System directory of the Mac OSX which you could use to store preferences that will be automatically installed into any new users home directory when they first log in. This only helps with new login profiles though as the people who have already logged in will already have their home directories made from the default settings without the new preferences. This also assumes you’re comfortable with screwing around in the OSX System folder as a ROOT user!

There are lots of alternatives, whether they’re stand alone machines, server based accounts, active directory etc. etc. but I’m sure there is a perfect set-up for you somewhere, email me if you have any more questions or post a reply!

    Cheers

    Hi there!

I’ve just had a play with it and it seems you can’t have all the audio tracks appear in the timeline for a two shot edit with each shot having only stereo audio.
You may be able to merge the audio from one clip with the other and then use that as the master audio? I think there is a function within FCP to be able to merge audio and video tracks in the browser – primarily there for film and field audio recording but I’m sure it will work for your case.
Export the sound only from one of the clips, reimport it into the browser, mark a synchronisation point in the audio and second clip, select both, click on MERGE CLIPS in the modify menu.
That will give you the main clip with 4 tracks of audio which you can then use as a part of your multiclip file, making sure to set it to switch only the video.

    Hope that helps!

Is your new RAID a firewire? I had a similar problem when I changed one of my FW drives. It had somehow stopped me suing the other FW port for capturing, once I unplugged the FW drive I could capture again with no problems.
I suspect a FW problem with my hard drive, I ended up getting a refund, buying an alternative drive and all was fine but I can’t unfortunately remember what the model is of the one I took back – sorry!
Try restarting the machine without the new drive if it is a RAID and see if your log and capture menu comes back.
Hope this helps in some way
