I am amazed at the juvinile babble that is coming from you for someone who came on here and started by saying how old you are, and how long youve been around…its really hard to take anything you spew out seriously……I will refrain from stooping to your level…and wish you all the luck in the world as an “Avid” editor…..I will go back now and keep working on my feature, onlineing on a DS, that will be out in over 4000 theaters in Dec…..and it was of course cut on an Avid Media Composer…..I think everyone here is starting to see your true colors……as I can tell from the responses your getting…..are you really 12 and pretending to be older and wiser…..

……well, now that you have turned this into a personal attack on me…….I will close by saying, your right, you have no idea who I am, or my history, I wont bother going into it, but I will say that people at Avid know me, I am featured on thier website, I was one of the first people to use Adrenaline in production……so before you blindly go insulting me, you might want to think about it first……but your old, I know….your blood pressure is high, take a deep breathe…its ok…..I like Avid too, you didnt program it, dont take it so personally…..

Now I have to get back to the feature Im doing…..and you go do…whatever it is you do……..

um….not really sure what to say to this post……other than, what are you talking about???? other than your media management comment, which is totally valid….Im really not sure where you are coming from. FCP’s interface is much more flexable than Avid’s, hands down….no contest…..have you ever used an Avid DS? You know, the HIgh End system……it is much more in line with the way FCP works….hmmm, wonder why…..maybe because thats what people who are not married to Avid, and consider themselves artists, not promoters for a system…..want and need out of a media creation tool…..Avid is a GREAT offline tool…..things are changing….offline and online are getting blurred…Media Composer was never meant to be an online system….they have been adding onto that old legacy code for years……again read my post from my discussion with Avid reps at NAB….quote….we want to integrate advanced keyframing into every effect but “OLD AVID EDITORS” get very overwhelmed and freak out when they see all those keyframes…..am I the only one who is non-biased enough to think that this is totally insane thinking? I know that people dont like change and get comfortable with what they know, but the only thing I can say is that I feel it is my duty as an artist to keep up on the tools of my trade and if there is a better way to do things than I need to take the time to learn them…..

Segment Mode!!!! Get rid of it. Not needed….cumbersome, let me just grab stuff in the timeline and alter as needed without all the extra steps….please….pretty please…..let me lasso more than one clip and move them all at the same time above or below to other tracks…..please…..let me move a clip without losing my dissolves….if this is a feature, I dont get it……and dont let me get started on the audio editing tools….talk about cumbersome…..give me a waveform that I can use…….and stepping into clips to see more than one effect…..ugg….what the hell…..cant I just stack effects and see the results like every other system….then when you step into an effect you cant see above it….insane…..

Im sure Ill get blasted for this post, so be it……I know this wasnt supposed to turn into a Avid vs FCP post, but it always ends up that way, people get so hung up on the tools they use…..like they programed the damn thing and take it personally if anyone points out its faults…..so when I see someon get on here and just bash FCP without really seeming to have any understanding what the system can do……

I like Avid products….use them all the time, and am even featured on their website, so Im not here trying to bash them, I just want them to get with the times, because lately when using Media COmposer, I feel limited and it is frustrating, thinking, ahhh I could do this so easy in this system or that system…..

anyways…sorry to go on and on….just MHO……take it or leave it….or let the backlash begin….

for short form and flashy editing FCP runs circles around Avid…..period……try doing and kind of complicated compositing in Avid, using keyframes….transfer modes….oh wait, no such thing in Avid unless you want to use a third party plug in that isnt even made any more….and any kind of “segment mode” is just archaic at this point I think….editors are not only expected to be “offline” editors, but to do effects and text treatments…ect…..I know I will get the same response from people that consider themselves “Avid”editors and not just editors…..that they like the interface and how much better it is…..but go take a look at every other editor, compostior….even look at Avid’s higher end DS……when I was at NAB and asked the guy showing the Media Composer I asked if he ever saw a day when they would make ALL effects “advanced keyframable” and his response…..was……Older editors get freaked out and overwhelmed when they see all thos keyframes…..!!!!! I just had to laugh……I think my actual response was something more crude….but you get the idea….so this is Avid’s mentallity…..they dont want to make a better interface and keep up with the rest of the industry… from fear of scaring older editors……get a clue…….its just a tool, the interface is falling behind everyone else…..and they are in this weird place where they dont want to redo their prcing structure….so if I were to invest my money into a system….it would be FCP all the way….no question…….

  • I disagree, I think we all saw the writing on the wall before Avid bought out the Pinnacle….Cinewave was always overpriced IMHO……compared to what else was out there for the money….sure it did things other cards couldnt….but the cost didnt seem to justify…yes I know Walter will disagree…..

  • Actually it is going out to DVCPro50 as a master and for TV broadcast as well as commercial DVD sales…..
