    Thanks Dave and Jan.

I’ve managed it sending the video only to AE and relying on the original audio from the clip.

Hi Robert. Thanks for your input.
In the meanwhile, I discovered there’s a bug in Color Sync and if you use a custom CSS profile created with some third-party software, quicktime, final cut pro x and apple preview get color wrong. This don’t happen with apple built-in profiles…

    Hi Mike,
thanks for your support. I downloaded JES extensifier and followed your advice.

If I strip out gamma and color data, nothing changes. If I set gamma to 1.8, in QuickTime 7 blacks are not crushed anymore but the picture it’s lighter than it should be. Nothing changes in QuickTime X.

Anyway, I’ve discovered there’s a bug in Apple Color managed apps in OSX Sierra and some monitors.

If you use a custom calibrated profile all Apple color managed apps (Quicktime, Final Cut X etc…) show this issue.

Apparently, Chrome uses AV foundation and is affected as well.

I tested it on some stills and I have the same issue in Preview and QuickLook.

The only fix seems to use the default monitor profile (which is not calibrated) or a different player… Not good for FCPX users though.

  • In fact, I tested them on different editing systems and they behave the same.
The only difference I see is in the metadata of the file.

If I look at the file info in QuickTime for the audio I see:

    Discrete version: 12 discrete channels
Mono multichannel version: 12 channel (mono)

    and in MediaInfo:

    Discrete version: 12 channels – channel mapping: discrete-0 sicrete-1 etc…
    Mono multichannel version: 12 channels – channel mapping: ? ? ? etc…

I’m still trying to guess what’s the difference in practical terms.

Thanks for you hint. I’d like to avoid a double export.
Is nesting the edit and scale in a new sequence a viable option?

Thanks for your reply. I looked for the video you mentioned on adobe’s forum but I didn’t find it.

My audio channels in the sequence are correctly set up for 5.1 and I don’t want to change it… My problem is I have to check some graphic overlays and subtitles: on both my eight channel audio interfaces and two audio monitors I only hear the LR channels and no voice (Center channel). I guess (I hope) there’s a way to tell Premiere or osx something like “please, pretend this is a two channels audio interface and mixdown” like usually happens if I listen through my laptop speakers.
