I respectfully don’t understand these “Petitions.” First of all – I’ll bet you a beer that within 6 months to a year all but maybe one of these features are added to the app. The one exception may very well be backwards compatibility of legacy projects. 7 uses old 32 bit Carbon technology with antiquated Frameworks. I’m not saying that it’s impossible to do. I’ am saying it’s a long shot.
Why not learn the new app., continue you use 7, and give them a chance to kick this thing up? Nobody is forcing you to update.

Also – there’s no need to switch tools to disassociate (demagnetize) a clip or group of clips from the rest of the timeline assets. Try using the < or > keys after making a selection. It works pretty well …

I have to agree with Brad on this. I think everyone is jumping the gun. OTOH, I totally understand the frustrations. What I find confusing is why would one not assume that apple has full intention of adding all documented missing features that Pro’s need?? And this stuff about not “understanding” the lack of support to open legacy projects – it’s not that difficult: FCP 7 is build on an entirely different foundation using antiquated Frameworks. That being said, I do believe apple needs to come up with something with regards to legacy project support. I think they will.
I just installed a new video card in a 2006 1,1 MacPro. FCPX is extremely snappy and responsive. Night and Day compared to FCP 7. It’s going to interesting to see what happens and what is said when most, if not all of the “missing” features are added. eventually.

New card is installed. Very noticeable difference in FCPX performance compared to the X 1900XT.
My machine is a 2006 MacPro. 2x 2.66 Dual Core Xeon. FCPX is *very* responsive. I can only imagine how well this thing runs on an up to date machine …

I just bought one (5770) locally as well at B&H for $229. The odd thing is my machine has an ATI X1900 XT, clearly referenced as an unsupported card. I was able to purchase/install without a problem. A friend has an older iMac with “unsupported” graphics and he had similar success. I wonder why there are inconsistencies?

Dosen’t it seem odd that apple would permit an “outsider” (nothing against Larry) under NDA to go public with something like this? I’m not complaining. I’m looking forward to it …
