  • Syncing problems with Zoom audio

    Hi,

I am editing using dv pal footage and audio recorded from an external Zoom recorder, and I find that around every minute or so the sync goes out, the video being ahead by a few frames per minute.

I have tried adjusting the speed of the video clip to match the total amount of sync difference from a 30 minute clip (44 frames) but it was still out of sync at the end. I couldnt get the exact duration match by slowing it down using the speed adjustment, but also not convinced that this would work as it seems to be accumulative.

Anyone overcome these kind of problems before?

    Thanks!

    Kate,

    Have a look at DualEyes:

Thanks for Dual Eyes advice. Tried it but unfortunately didnt fix what I have now figured out is audio drift. The video and audio are synced at first but gradually get out of sync.

Tried changing sequence settings in fcp. Neither changing audio or video sequence settings made any difference. Tried slowing it down but it was still out of sync.

Also part of the problem may be that I am using footage imported via iMovie and then brought into fcp. The audio rate from this footage is at 48kh – 32 bit floating point, and the audio from zoom files were coming in at 44.1 kh 16 bit.

Have tried re-exporting audio files via Quicktime to 32 bit and this worked on some projects but not others.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think its the external importing of tapes that is the problem? Have tried importing same footage via fcp and the sync problem was resolved, but we have a work-flow problem here if import cant be done on a different machine.

    Many thanks!
