Yes, sometime it connects on its own after a few seconds but mostly it does not. However, it always connects if you wait and plug the firewire cable (which is already plugged into the computer) into the camera after it’s in PC mode. I know that this may not be the recommended method but it always works for me.

It sounds like you’re connecting the firewire properly. It does say “1394 Device Disconnect” when you first go to PC/Dub mode but then it should change to “1394 Device Connect” automatically after a few seconds. Check to see if your firewire is securely connected at both ends. I know that these things can be frustrating when they don’t work the way they should. Keep trying and good luck. -
OK to disregard this – I’m back ordered from the factory from the few dealers offering the $9995 price so it’s a moot point – one would hope!
