July 11, 2015 at 5:00 am in reply to: Can you Re-size aftereffects? from 24′ screen to 40′ screenI’d assume this has more to do with your computers output settings to the TV/monitor than after effects specifically? Or possibly the tv itself doesn’t allow for higher resolution.

Dave, what codec do you recommend converting DSLR H264 codec into? Does converting it into Prores help After Effects? I realise shooting with a camera that can do native prores or something else would be ideal, but in the case that you can’t, does converting H264 help?

Both videos are probably done with “Trapcode Particular.”

You can use an HD preset and when burning a DVD it’ll convert it to PAL for you. That way you have it in HD should you ever want it. However, if you just want to work in Pal you can.
PAL is usually 4×3, which means it is a square aspect ration (think old tv’s). The dimensions would be 720×576. You can work in widescreen though (newer tv’s aspect ratio 16:9). In AE though, In AE though, I’d use PAL D1/DV Square pixels or the wide screen equivalent. You’d usually use square pixels for computer generated effects (from what I’ve been able to understand).
If you search the forums you’ll find many posts on your images not being crisp and what settings you need to change that.

That’s just a bunch of masks animated from left to right. Really nothing fancy on that.
This tutorial looks like it may get you started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdJlOAXqUFs
I haven’t actually watched it, but skimmed through and seems to go through the right steps.

June 27, 2015 at 9:49 am in reply to: How to get a camera following a shape layer strokeCould you not animate the arrow. Parent the camera to the arrow. Your Background and arrow should be 3d layers. Then, it’ll appear as your arrow isn’t moving, but instead the background will move. which is what a GPS does I think?

And your render settings?

June 5, 2015 at 6:52 am in reply to: Trying to achieve this particular reflection on a 2D logoI think you’re right, this is definitely more a graphic design area, rather than after effects/animation. So, you may get a better response from a graphics forum of sorts. I did this, as an example. Its by no means finished, would need a lot of tweaking for it to look really 3d. But, in my mind, this is what you’d have to play with.

Possibly you can post a screen shot of the logo that needs “changing” so we can have a better idea of what needs changing. Otherwise, it is quite hard to know what would need changing.

June 4, 2015 at 6:25 am in reply to: Trying to achieve this particular reflection on a 2D logoAre you redesigning their logo? Or is it already 3d looking?Because, the first thing to do, in my mind, would be to hop into illustrator or photoshop and create the logo that they are after. Then figure out how to animate it. Designing logos in After Effects are not as easy.
The 3d look on the photo you link to gives that perspective from the drop shadow underneath the white parts. This makes you believe it is raised and has depth (3d). On the badge itself, they just replicated a 3 light structure. Top, left and right. Small rim lights to give it more depth and character.
