Am I right in thinking that the Port Multiplier failure problems are focussed on the use of RAID+PM.
If you configure your Port Multiplier external box as JBOD (no RAID) then a bridge-board failure is inconvenient (swap the drive), but not fatal?

One difference of eSATA rather than SATA is that the voltages are a bit more robust, and a 2m cable is permissible, rather than a 1m cable for internal SATA connection.

I distrust a +133.33% scaling operation to *exactly* allow the vertical line structure of the frame to remain untouched.
I prefer not to use Scale, and instead adjust the four corner positions in the Distort section of the Motion tab. For PAL 16:9 FHA video I use +/- 480 instead of 360.

There is an OS X audio mute checkbox in System Preferences>Sound>Output>Output Volume.
This should be unchecked.

To output to tape in DV PAL you need:
1. Your timeline NTSC clip properly converted to a new PAL clip, either using Compressor, or the Nattress Standards Converter plug-in (with your clip nested into a PAL FCP Sequence, creating a new PAL QT movie).
2. With the deck powered down turn the switch on the back to PAL.
3. Fire up FCP with a PAL DV Easy Setup, then open a new PAL timeline Sequence, and drag your PAL-converted clip into the timeline, and Play/Print to Video/Edit to tape.

Both the deck and FCP are fussy about being allowed to set themselves up properly – get something wrong and the get the results you’re seeing.

The music-fascinated teenager – of any age 😉 – who feels the urge to create their own music, rather than just consume=download someone else’s, they’re in a no-win situation.

They have no revenue stream – can’t hope to have a revenue stream – because nowadays music is universally freely given-away. So they will spend their money with extreme caution.

Almost to a person they realise that Mac OS X’s plug’n’play advantages when it cvomes to computer-based music creation are something to aspire to. 🙂

Logic Studio is available at a price all can afford.

Yet the very few multi-channel audio I/O devices (4 or more channels, both ways simultaneously) that used USB have failed/been discontinued – because FireWire has overwhelming stability and performance advantages.

Whilst a few manufacturers have produced PCIe I/O systems, there are droves of manufacturers, big and speshialist* (Apple included in their partnership with Apogee) who are even now announcing newly specced FireWire music recording or processing devices.

Their isn’t an alternative technology available – now of in the near future – to subsitute for these devices.

A lot of these youngsters, whilst aspiring to the simplicity of Mac OS X, are adept at manipulating Windows PC hardware. What better incentive could Steve Jobs give to the hackintosh community to get to it, and make it work… 🙁
