I shoot two cameras for the ceremony, intro, frist dance and anything I think is important at the wedding. I put my backup camera in the back up high and wide. I tried a Go Pro but the low ligh at the reception did not look so good. It looked good for the outside ceremony. When I used the Go Pro I used 3 cameras that day. My main camera, backup canera and the Go Pro. I used my nephew and now my daughter to help me for the day. Paid them $10.00 per hour. Where I live that is good for a 16 year old.

Thank You Matthew, I did some more reading about the camera. I will not be getting it right now. If I was doing other types of videos others than weddings to help pay for it then I would get one. The DSLR’s record 8bit 4.2.0 to the card. I am using a Canon XF105 for my main camera shooting weddings. I was looking for a camera that would record 4K, high bit rate to the internal cards or drives than the DSLR’s.

June 10, 2014 at 12:04 am in reply to: Atomos Ronin with a BMCC

Hi Tim, I could be wrong but I thought the BMCC records to it’s own SSD internal drive with a higher resolution then the supported resolutions of the Atomos Ronin supports.

Supported Formats: In/Out for Atomos Ronin
    HD 1080i60, 1080i59.94, 1080i50, 1080p30, 1080p25, 1080p24, 1080p23.98, 1080pSF23.98, 1080pSF24, 1080pSF25, 1080pSF30, 720p60, 720p59.94, 720p50, SD 480i, 486i, 576i

    Records 4K (3840×2160) & HD (1920×1080) for the BMCC

In less you mean the one with the 2.5K Image Sensor. The 2.5k camera records 12-bit RAW, ProRes and DNxHD Formats to it’s own SSD.

I am thinking of getting the 4k BMCC. I mostly shoot weddings and not sure if BMCC would be good for that kind of work.

So I do not see a need to use the Atomos Ronin with that camera. Let me know if I am wrong.

  • Hi, I have a XF105 and I like it. I use it to shoot weddings and some corporate events. Low light is not as good as the Sony’s. I had a VX2000 and still have my PD-170. When the light get low I just have to turn up the on camera light a little more. For a two camera shoot my friend shoots the DSLR shoots and I get the video camera shoots and the audio. It looks good with the 5D and the XF105. With the 12 min limit on the DSLR we do not sweet it when it come to missing something because the XF105 can shoot all day. The Sony NX5u is good too but the XF105 shoots 50 mbs/sec 422 color to the CF card if you need that.

I would like to see that you are getting 85,000.00 to 125,000.00 per year as a full time job with a 401K and health insurance. At the company I work at for my full time job. Software and Electrical engineers make that kind of salary. Just out of school they start at 65,000.00 to 75,000.00 with a bachalors. I thuoght that video editors for TV and film would get payed the same or more.

July 1, 2011 at 2:01 am in reply to: Look to get a HD cammers

    Hi,
I heard that DSLR are being used but just don’t know how it is done. My friend has a Canon 5D Mark II and he told me when shooting video it stops recording after 12 mins. So how would the ceremony be covered?
They send me alone and I set up a backup camera with a wide shot and shoot with the other camera for the ceremony. I shoot one camera for the rest of the day.

    Hi,
Thank you for your input. The company I shoot for is going all HD for there wedding packages for next year. So I do not need one tomorrow. They are getting new projectors with SDI-HD out this year for the I-Mag jobs and I would like to stay will Sony. That’s why I am look at the Sony HXR-NX5U. The AG-HVX170 looks good to. I have some time think about it.

    Thank You
    Paul
