Sweet. So long XDCAM transfer if that’s true…

If the files are inside a BPAV folder, you might need to use the XDCAM transfer software to convert them before opening them in FCP. (Or can FCP open these natively?)

Ah, I was also going to ask about that Blackmagic card. I see a lot of posts here about that one. Thanks!

Hi, David. I guess I just asked my question badly, that’s all. The I/O card you mentioned is what I was asking about suggestions for. (Like the AJA Kona card, right? This is probably quite pricey. Any others out there you’d recommend? I hate to skimp, but I just can’t afford anything super expensive now)

Roger, dodger. Nuff said, methinks. Can you suggest a decent video card (other than the dual-monitor card that came with the Mac, obviously) that will allow me to use a video monitor that won’t break my wallet? (Or could I use the 2nd video port and somehow convert that?) Thanks,

Shane, I hear what you’re saying. I guess I initially just wanted to know if this was some kind of hardware limitation on my system causing this. I can view the native footage in the Viewer just fine. No blur at all. Is it not safe to say that if my system/monitor can handle playing back 1080 footage in the viewer that it should be able to playback the same footage downsized to NTSC while viewing the Canvas? The 1080 playback seems like it would require more math, no? (Or does the conversion from 1080 to NTSC in the timeline actually require more math?)

    Thanks.

Walter, is it possible to add a 2nd monitor to an iMac, and run it in dual-monitor configuration? This iMac might be my answer. Is it safe to say that if it can handle AE8, it should be able to handle FCP? (or am I reaching here?)

    Thanks!

Hmmm, now I’m confused. I was originally thinking about using a Mini Mac, but a couple of gents on the Cow steered me away from it because the video output wasn’t so great.

I’ve got a super-sweet 24″ HD monitor at home ready to go…I just need a computer to hook up to it! How backward is that??? Ha! I’ve already got an old G4 at home, and I just ordered 2GB of RAM for it. I guess I’ll see how that goes. Maybe it’ll work. I only want it for practice.

    Thanks,

Wow Dennis, that sounds….well, dreadful. I’m not a Mac guy, I’ll say that up front. PC’s I can manipulate fairly well, but not so much with the Macs. You sound like you’ve done this a few dozen times or so, and thanks for the alternate solution, but I think I better stick to my original plan and just ask what my minimum Mac should be. (Translation: I’m a chicken-sh*t and can’t stomach investing any $ in a piecemeal system that may or may not work 🙂
