Sweet, thanks for the suggestions. Freeform is awesome; I went through a tutorial to make a flag wave, but I have a feeling to customize it for my needs might be a bit tricky. Most of the stuff in the tutorial I never even knew existed.. After Effects gets deep, but that’s good.

Page flip effect is very clever. I think this will be my route.

    Thanks!!

  • Wow, Newton looks absolutely amazing. I’ll try to pitch this one and hope for the best. I saw they have teacher and student prices so I emailed about whether they have a non-profit discount like adobe does. we’ll see.

Also, sweet idea about dropping actual books and frame matching. I have a feeling that this is more in our budget

  • We kind of fumbled around a bit, but I think we found a good way of doing it, for me anyway. We had a general idea of what we wanted to do, but weren’t sure about details, mostly because this is the first thing I’ve ever done in AE and I didn’t know what I could figure out by this Sunday.

I roughly put stuff together, mostly to make sure I knew how to do what we wanted, we kind of paced it out, out loud, then he made a soundtrack accordingly. He gave me the full file as well as each individual section so I can customize it. Hope it goes well.

    Thanks for the advice

  • Perfect, problem solved

wow, the trapcode suite looks awesome… unfortunately that suite is considerably more than the price of the entire CS5.5 Production Premium suite (non-profit license), that I’d been pushing for, so I probably don’t have a shot at that. I’ll keep note of this because I want it for myself, when I finish my internship.

I’m planning on pitching around $200 total, $250 if there’s something that seems really worth it. I might pitch $300 if it really seems like a lot more for the extra, but it would be a stretch. I’ll keep checking out sales and free demos

Wow, these look awesome. There’s a lot to choose from. I know that the Red Giant packages that were $500-$800 I’m almost positive are out of our budget. Digital Juice looks like its got a pretty good sale going on in January, so that might be a good option to get a couple of those. Its a bit overwhelming of a decision; Walter, your post is exactly the kind of summary I was looking for. Really helpful. I’ll go and get a bunch of demos and compare.

I think typography will be our most common use, but I suppose that could really mean anything, since you can put text into any project, style, or whatever.

    Thanks
