Wow, that is really surprising to me. Am I behind the times and TWAIN has moved on to some newer protocol that CS5 supports? I scan quite a bit and having it integrated into PS was helpful (and, quite honestly, expected). I’d be curious on why it was dropped if anyone has some insight. It seems odd to remove something that should be fairly solid code and useful.
I realize it essentially opened up the scanner’s application driver, but was handy to have it on the PS menu and then open up within PS.

Maybe not the best method, but I achieved it by
– Type your text on a layer. I then Transformed the text and made it taller, but, depending on your font, you may not need to do this.
– Rasterize it
– Make a copy of it
– On the first layer, Distort. Use the top left ‘handle’ and distort your text. Use the shift key to keep the handle moving in a vertical direction.
– Change the opacity of both the layers to 50%.
– On the second layer (the copy), Distort again, but use the top right handle to distort the text. You should see that the distortion moves the center point of the text. You need to drag the layer (while it is still in distort mode) left or right to align the center point of the text with the first layer. This should make more sense when you are working on it. This is why we changed the opacity, so that you could see where they cross over. Use the shift key when moving the layer to ensure the bottom edge stays consistent.
– Put the opacity of each layer back to 100%
– Now create a mask for the first layer that just shows the left half of the text.
– Create a mask for the second layer (this is the inverse of the mask on the first layer.Pauley

Glad it worked. I’m curious. Was it all still editable text that you assigned the link to? Or, was the invite a picture, and, if so, how did you choose which areas would be active links?

Seems like you are following the same approach I would: try every combination. When you tried it with a photo, was it roughly the same size (both in pixel count and in file size)? I’m wondering if their machine has some sort of file size limit.
Just to be clear, on the machine that is having problems, the file does not even show up as an option to load, correct? Or can you select the file and it does not work?
If the file is not showing up, try a really basic file name (e.g. A.JPG) with no spaces or mixed case. I doubt this is the problem, but you never know. Also, try shrinking the file to different sizes (both pixel count and file size) to see when/if the machine starts recognizing them.

No, I don’t know how to do it in Gmail. Maybe you can create the webpage in Word (or other web designer tool) and then paste it into your email? I know that I have pasted tables and lists from excel/word into my email and it converts it to html (or rich text).

I don’t have a clue, but maybe a workaround since it seems like what you are doing should work.
Try opening the file in another app besides photoshop. I assume it opens correctly, then save it with this app. You may get some quality loss since the second app may recompress.
Also, what settings did you use to save the jpg in CS5? Quality level and check marks?

I believe you’ll have to send an html based email if you want to embed links. You say you want to link to the text, but is it still text or is it now just a picture? If you search for some html codes, you should find some examples of what you want to do (a href, map, etc.)
