As predicted the problem is back. However the CFF edit to the enable the >2GB process VM seems to work with initial testing. Note however I only needed to mod the exe (not the dlls).

The post link seemed to have ‘…’ in the middle of it so couldn’t access it directly but a search for CFF on the same forum came up with the goods at https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=650217.

Looks very interesting.

Weird thing is that (today) without any changes things seem to be working better. I’m totally baffled. Still, at least I have some more ammunition to throw at the problem when it comes back (as these disappearing problems usually do!)

I’ve also been having problems rendering HD video (to AVCHD) on Platinum 9. I’m using AVCHD clips from a Panasonic HDC-SD200 (just gone HD this Christmas). These import fine and I can edit them, add transitions, preview etc with no problem. The movie length is just over 8 minutes.

However as soon as I render using the Sony AVC/AVCHD 1920×1080(PAL) 5.1 output I get an almost immediate exception/crash.

I’ve tried converting all the clips to MPEG2 first (using TMPGEnc4) and using these in the timeline. The render gets to about 50% before crashing.

Finally tried converting clips to AVI with Lagarith codec (again using TMPGEnc4) and used these in the timeline. Vegas then completed the render to AVCHD, but then the video playback is jerky (though not at the start).

I have been considering whether I could get the ffdshow codes installed, and whether they would then offer a more stable output to AVCHD – but I’ve not had much experience with adding new codecs and using from Vegas – is this idea viable – or will it be hours of frustration?

I’ve tried an uninstall/re-install to no avail, but didn’t do anything specific to clean registry entries – how would I do this?

I’ve logged a support ticket with Sony and I am waiting to hear back, but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.
