Rendering crashes … Vegas Platinum 9
Posted by Paul Leach on December 31, 2009 at 2:59 amI am using a new machine with good memory and processing to render
high definition movies to .wmv … I did one project that went easily but now Vegas Platinum 9 is crashing during rendering. The difference is that the current project has .jpg images as a part of
the timeline.I see that is a known problem, so I have tried two different suggestions. Both involve using infraview to redo the jpgs … first as png files and then as resized .bmp files. Neither approach has made a difference … still crashing part way thru
rendering.Omar Sarmiento replied 16 years ago 6 Members · 13 Replies -

December 31, 2009 at 1:13 pmCan you render to MP4 (Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC)? That would determine if it’s just a WMV problem or other highly compressed renders as well.

December 31, 2009 at 3:10 pmHi John … I have been able to render in .mp4 and .avi with no problems.

December 31, 2009 at 5:24 pmSo it sounds like a WMV issue. You can always render to AVI and use Microsoft’s WMV tools to convert to WMV. I never use WMV so I could have the problem as well but just don’t know it. MP4 is really the way to go these days.

December 31, 2009 at 11:14 pmI have only successfully rendered to .avi in low resolution. HD
rendering to.avi results in choppy video and sound. -

January 1, 2010 at 8:11 amToday I split the 4 min 30 sec project into 7 small parts with the intention of rendering them separately and then knitting them
together. After trying all day, I have 2 of the seven parts rendered to .wmw.Rendering in any high definition format does not work properly.
Vegas Platinum 9 quite simply does work properly with my brand
spanking new Windows 7 and new computer. Pretty frustrating. -

January 2, 2010 at 1:47 pmNot a wmv issue at all. Default values in Sony Vegas Platinum 9 do not allow a system to utilize more than 2 gigs of memory. I followed the directions on another forum to modify a few .dll files and it now works as it should. The fellow that came up with the solution let Sony know about it well before Platinum 9 was released yet the limitation is still there. Curious.

January 2, 2010 at 2:08 pmI had the same problem. I finally uninstalled everything to do with Vegas including registry entries and reinstalled. The problem seems to have been resoved.

January 2, 2010 at 4:41 pmDon’t be so quick to blame Vegas.
If you’re using a 32-bit OS, then it’s a Windows problem as most 32 bit exe and dll files have a 2 gig maximum memory cap. -

January 3, 2010 at 9:10 pmI’ve also been having problems rendering HD video (to AVCHD) on Platinum 9. I’m using AVCHD clips from a Panasonic HDC-SD200 (just gone HD this Christmas). These import fine and I can edit them, add transitions, preview etc with no problem. The movie length is just over 8 minutes.
However as soon as I render using the Sony AVC/AVCHD 1920×1080(PAL) 5.1 output I get an almost immediate exception/crash.
I’ve tried converting all the clips to MPEG2 first (using TMPGEnc4) and using these in the timeline. The render gets to about 50% before crashing.
Finally tried converting clips to AVI with Lagarith codec (again using TMPGEnc4) and used these in the timeline. Vegas then completed the render to AVCHD, but then the video playback is jerky (though not at the start).
I have been considering whether I could get the ffdshow codes installed, and whether they would then offer a more stable output to AVCHD – but I’ve not had much experience with adding new codecs and using from Vegas – is this idea viable – or will it be hours of frustration?
I’ve tried an uninstall/re-install to no avail, but didn’t do anything specific to clean registry entries – how would I do this?
I’ve logged a support ticket with Sony and I am waiting to hear back, but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

January 4, 2010 at 6:07 pmHi Paul … here is the “hack” that allowed Vegas Platinum 9 to fully
utilize my systems memory resources (very similar to yours) and ended
my rendering problems:https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/…07&Replies=111
When you use CFF Explorer, you’ll need to choose “run
as administrator” so it will allow you to modify the files.Paul
