I know that. I mean, before starting to film. Cause I know that PP2 Scene Detects whenever there’s a timecode break, but my worry is that if it’s not set to time/date or something else/specific, there might not be a break if you just push rec/stop and rec again. Or is there always a break once you stop recording, whatever it is set on?

As much I’d like (and will surely still request for real master files) avoid dealing with VOB transfers, I will sure copy and save this advice.

I have TMPGenc but didn’t know it could do that…. Question is though, is that AVI file editable afterwards? Many of these other programs such as CloneDVD and Total Video Converter can put back the VOB file into an AVI, but don’t try editing them out after (at least in PP2). I’ve been stricken with the file not wanting to be imported due to bad audio (no good sample rate) or the format becomes squeezed or being reduced, etc… Which could also be related to some potential bad settings I’ve set before (although I thoroughly verify each of them), but anyhow, still becomes annoying and time consuming.

Thought of that, but considering that I have already tried with 2 different DVD players and seeing the quality vary very much (on similar aspects, such as the darkening of the image), I would then less expect my DAZZLE DV bridge to be the problem. So I feel like the same problem might happen here. Or does use of a camera as the bypasser changes something?

I explained the situation to the guy and there was indeed a problem with his footage. So he sent me back a proper 29.97 version, and when I separated the fields for rotoscoping, the problem was gone. Well, almost, there are still a few frames with a ghosting effect, but I’m guessing it’s the motion blur, since the action movements are fast. I should manage.

Hum…

To Steven : footage (no interpretation & fields off, as given by default) dragged onto a comp = I see both the jagged edges of interlacing and the ghost effect (de-doubling), but sometimes just the ghost…

To Dave : “check to make sure it’s actually 23.976 full frames.” Tried as described, and indeed the frame moves every other frame, but still the random interlacing & ghosting is happening…

I’ll ask the guy in the meantime, but feel free to add any though.

But the confusion part is the fact that to begin with, the video lists in its properties (even outside of AE) as being 23.976. So should I assume it really is 29.97 in disguise, or still 23.976 but interlaced?

But how do you explain the ghosting effect? May be the motion blur, but how am I suppose to rotoscope when the doubling scrambles the masking area into an awful mess…?
