wow – strange behavior.
It has been awhile since I used FCP 7.
How about making some simple layouts and saving them
and seeing if they can restore?
where are these layouts stored? maybe the permissions in that folder are
set strange?

Yes, a 2 TB SSD will be very useful for many purposes..

one of the main reasons I like to make too many carbon copy clones of
working systems before I upgrade.
Of course, I would have most likely made this same mistake, believing that a regular software company would get early developer copies of each OS upgrade …

One of things I used to do back in the old days is use an app called
“DiskTracker” and capture the directory of each hard drive right before I was about
to un-mount them.
Then I could search this database and find the name of the hard drive that a specific file
or project was on.
And I had multiple databases. For example, I had a catalog of every DVD-R I gave out to
humans and clients. So if they needed a file over the phone, I could tell them which disc
that file is on.
DiskTracker dude died, so no more updates.
NeoFinder and DiskCatalogMaker do similar things.

This has happened a few times – in retrospect I should have burned the time code
to the work in progress.
What I would do after making a few snapshots of the Project file,
I would go from the back forward, then the time stamps stay correct on the first pass thru.
It is stressful yet successful for me a few times.

After you download the files bring them into Compressor and convert them to NTSC or SD.

I have used older versions of Toast to burn DVD-Videos.
They work okay … not everything was clear, yet it worked.
There are some templates to choose from.
I also used iDVD up to 2 years ago.
