Thank you for the recommendation. Today, (when I was using the software) I received a notification that an update is available which I could download (released in 2013.) But when I followed the link, I was lead to a page about brand new products and there was no update to be seen. I assume it’s long gone then.

I noticed on another forum that someone else regularly had a freezing issue during rendering with Sony Movie Studio. The individual that replied stated that reinstalling the software rarely fixes these kinds of issues. Though he did have a suggestion of resetting the software (clearing the cache.) I did exactly that and followed the instructions here:
https://www.moviestudiozen.com/doctor-zen-faq/573-how-to-reset-sony-software-to-default-settings#a1
Unfortunately, it made no difference.

Thankyou John for your detailed reply. I will stop exporting videos in MP4 with Sony Movie Studio.
My gosh, I had no idea that the prores codec used by Shotcut is ilegal. In that case, I won’t use that codec. Among the codecs that a lot of stock sites accept are h264 and photojpeg. I admit that h264 is more attractive to me due to the smaller file sizes. Though I guess photojpeg would be the preferred option for clients due to supposedly less compression? I’ll have to check if Shotcut offers photojpeg as an option.
Thanks again.

February 20, 2018 at 11:35 am in reply to: Black portions in corners still visible after zooming in after rotationThankyou for your reply. The clip is the same aspect ratio as the project – both are 16:9. Previously, I had rotated another ‘event’ within the same project (shot with the same camera) and there were no issues then.

February 17, 2018 at 1:51 am in reply to: Random unwanted frames appearing in timelineThere’s another weird thing I’m discovering. Currently, I’m trying to replace the affected shots with newly trimmed events from the original files. They are cut to exactly the same durations as the affected shots and yet a number of them are shorter which again makes no sense. So when I replace some of them on the timeline, there is sometimes about a frame or two of black between shots. In other words a brief gap.

February 16, 2018 at 9:22 pm in reply to: Random unwanted frames appearing in timelineSteve, that’s interesting that it’s a known issue amongst Vegas users. Though it wasn’t rendered as MOV, despite some of the original files being MOVs. All four segments were rendered as MP4s which are currently sitting on the timeline. And I would prefer to keep it as MP4 because that’s the only 1080 progressive option that I know of in Movie Studio.

February 7, 2018 at 6:49 am in reply to: Sony Movie Studio is not using all footage from project fileI did some experimenting and found out that Sony Movie Studio cannot open these MOV files (containing the super 8 footage) on the laptop. These MOV files supposedly contain the Pro Res codec. A message comes up saying that Quicktime Components were not properly installed. There is a link provided which leads to a website (could have been Apple but I can’t recall) where I could download the Quicktime Components. I did download the items multiple times but I still cannot open the MOV files within Movie Studio on this laptop. Each time I download the Quicktime item from that website, I get an error message near the end of the installation process, something about memory referencing

March 15, 2017 at 1:07 am in reply to: Frame rate question about Vegas Movie Studio 14Ive just had another look at Sony Movie Studio and noted under Windows Media Video V11, there is a 1080 25p option. The heading states that the bitrate is 25Mbps but oddly, when you click on ‘customise template’ to look at the finer details, it states that this preset has a 7 Mbps bitrate which is shockingly low.

March 14, 2017 at 11:38 pm in reply to: Frame rate question about Vegas Movie Studio 14A lot of the online stock agencies prefer MOV files. Regarding MPEG 2, I don’t really have a strong preference for that (just as long as the video file is rendered with a sufficiently high bitrate.) I can then import the MPEG 2 (or alternatively another kind of file) into MPEG Streamclip where I can convert it into a MOV.
