    I’m having a lot of trouble with Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12.0. It’s software that Ive had for quite a few years (originally purchased on CD.) It used to be really reliable. The previous times I was using it, it would take ages to start up and would sometimes disappear as it was launching. Though I was able to render two videos successfully at that point in time.

    For this latest project, the software is starting up super quickly and doesn’t disappear when doing so. And the editing has been really reliable (no issues there.) The problem now is the rendering. Ive spent all day yesterday trying to render my saved and finished project file multiple times. Actually more times than I can count. And I’m running out of patience.

    Often I will get to about 3% or 4% of the rendering process and then the software will vanish from the screen. Sometimes I will get a message that it’s about to close. Other times, it will close without any warning while I’m rendering. Once I managed to get 21% of the rendering done before the software disappeared. Usually, it’s under 5%.

    I defragment the internal hdd before starting up the software again. I do this every single time. Ive also restarted the PC. I’m trying to track down the CD but I’m having a lot of trouble locating it. I haven’t seen it around for well over a year or two. If I could get my hands on the CD, I could try reinstalling it or install it on another machine. If there anything else I could try?

    Sorry for asking a silly question but I guess it’s impossible to install this software on another computer without the CD? It would have been a number of years ago when I installed the software on my pc with the CD.

    I noticed on another forum that someone else regularly had a freezing issue during rendering with Sony Movie Studio. The individual that replied stated that reinstalling the software rarely fixes these kinds of issues. Though he did have a suggestion of resetting the software (clearing the cache.) I did exactly that and followed the instructions here:

    Unfortunately, it made no difference.

    You’d have more success getting an answer on a Movie Studio Forum. This is the Vegas Pro forum. If you purchased the software from MAGIX, get back to them on the installation/product options.

    Thank you for the recommendation. Today, (when I was using the software) I received a notification that an update is available which I could download (released in 2013.) But when I followed the link, I was lead to a page about brand new products and there was no update to be seen. I assume it’s long gone then.

    Well, 2013 was three years prior to when SONY sold many of its lines to MAGIX, so, maybe a time to move over to VP or investigate the MAGIX option. Did you register your software before 2016 switch over to MAGIX? I did and still have acccess to some “ancient” s/w 😂.

    Look, do get onto the Movie Studio Forums from MAGIX and see what you can upgrade to and what spec your PC needs to be. Here’s a link:

    You should be able to download the last update of Sony MSP 12 from

    https://www.magix.com/int/support/my-service-center/product-downloads/

    Note that if you already have build 896, it’s practically the same as the last one.

    The new MAGIX Movie Studio product line can be found at https://www.magix.com/us/video-editor/movie-studio/

    The MAGIX product is totally different as it is based on another program, so be sure to test with the free trial version first. Your v.12 is most likely valid for the special upgrade pricing. VEGAS (VCS) does not sell their Movie Studio any more. The last ones were v.17.
