You’d need Resolve to be create a LUT to export that was generated from the CC for MC to be able to use that as a source LUT.
There isn’t any other way to have 2 different colour correction system swap “look” effectively.Pat Horridge

I’ve had a chance to “play” with the resolve grading interface and it’s incredibly powerful and sensible to use.
And the round trip to MC is already very good. Not far off the the round trip from MC to DS.
And that looks to be improving all the time. The Resolve route is far more flexible than the DS route and we see it as expanding.
It’s a shame I always I’d imagine DS becoming a “plugin” option for Media Composer and adding the advanced effects tree side and using the MC I/O system but that won;t work until MC can output greater than HD.

No it was as I expected. Sadly last year we pulled the DS from our flashing suite and Resolve is in its place.
However I do know work continues on DS even now.
The bigger question now will now good will the Resolve v 10 edit features be and will they impact Media composer

First off I’d check out the AVid couuminty forums at https://community.avid.com/forums/
Projects should be regularly copied to a backup location during jobs.
When a Jobs done I like to export out a same as source flatterned file of the main sequence (as the source for any encodes or DVDs/Blurays needed) and as a file based copy of the job.
Then consolidate the media from the final sequence(s) to a fresh (or empty) drive. This is the Avid media needed to re-work the sequence.
Assuming source files (tapeless) are already backedup that’s all you should need.
Generally any extra assets should be kept organised with the job and can then be archived as well. Finally Project can be copied off to archive location and the Attic empted of that project (remember to clear the attic out regularly as it can get very big!)
Then with the consolidated media taken off the system (so not seen by Avid) you can use the media tool to delete all the media and precomputes used in that project. If on a PC an app called MDV is really helpful for managing media.
My preferemce for regualry used stuff is to make a new project called something sensible like (default graphics) and import your graphics etc into there.
When you then create a new project copy the bin from the default grpahics project into the new project and you will have all those clips available. The media will be flagged as being in the default grpahics porject so media toll won’t delete them if you use current project as the filter in media tool.Pat Horridge

March 29, 2013 at 8:58 am in reply to: Extremely Large Premiere CS6 Project Files – Over 1 Gigabyte?!Luckily premiere hasn’t really had any in roads on the post work we do you (mostly broadcast). But I’ve heard similar reports. Long form work seems to resulti memory leakage in the project. The temp cure seems to be creating a fresh project and copy the sequences etc across. But as you work the size will start to grow again.

Also worth noting that the import process is a “legacy” process and as such isn’t seeing the same development as AMA so importing and AMA linking/Transcoding can produce different results for some file types.
Import should only really be used for legacy projects or for file formats not supported by AMA (or if you have to bring alphas in)
Conforms can be massively quicker and cheaper for AMA linked projects if you get it right.I cover this and a lot more in the VET course I deliver

March 21, 2013 at 8:43 am in reply to: How can I increase my MC 6.5.2 on a Mac application performance…Ok 16GB RAM shoudl be fine (I think MC will only use 12GB max)
AMA is a real resource hog. Any AMA bins open will be impacting performance and we now know there’s an invisible ceiling where one more bin open and it all starts to go slow.
We advice only using AMA for short fast edits. Anything longer or with lots of AMA content you need to use the AMA to link to media and then make selects. Those selects you consolidate or Transcode (Try consolidate first and if that isn’t happy Transcode) Consolidate is fast as it’s just copy data and re-wrapping. And can be done for any media that is in native Avid codec and that includes proress.I’d definetly add a second drive and make a RAID 0 you want all you can get from the drive as MC can do a lot realtime if the drives can cope.
And finally the MacPro isn’t your friend nowadays. It’s old tech and comparatively slow. When you look at the new Z820 machines with over 3Ghz 16 core CPUS and PCie 3 busses they fly and the old Macs just don’t cut it. Even a newer iMac may improve things.
