June 11, 2015 at 12:17 pm in reply to: Deseperatly searching the Avid MC 4.0.5 update for win XPAvid had to remove the older installers as they used code that Avid no longer had a license to distribute.
I imagine Avid had the option to negotiate a new license and incur a fee we’d all end up subsidising.
Or re-write all the old installers to use a different set of code again at a cost to all current users.
Or work on the assumption that folks will have maintained their own local copies of installers they need. Plus give notice to download them while they still existed.Avid sensibly chose the latter option. So notice was given and the old installers removed to comply with the license restriction.
I only have live on my system back to V5 but I have older versions on backup if you are really stuck.
needless to say all Pro users should maintain local copies of all intsallers they need. It’s a no brainer not to.

How long will the hardware that runs FCP legacy keep working? How fast can you turnaround a repair of a dead system? How will that impact you delivery ability.
Is running an old OS a security issue?
As long as it does what you need and can be secure and supported why change?Pat Horridge

May 9, 2015 at 8:03 am in reply to: GUI video playback in EDIT window is very jittery / stuttery – output over SDI is fine, so is color page. It’s always been like that. But as the edit functions where so poor it mattered little.
Unless V12 improves the edit playback performance those new edit functions will be of little use.Pat Horridge

May 4, 2015 at 9:04 am in reply to: Clone media hard disks or xfer via Windows explorer?OS based file copies don’t do a checksum verify so there is a very small risk of undetected data corruption.
So the question is just how important is the media?
Not important enough to use a process that will do a verify and create checksums for later comparison? Then just use the OS file copy.
If the content is important then use a vopy process that does a verify.
Cloning is one way but plenty if other tools that can do CRC checks and verify.Pat Horridge

April 30, 2015 at 3:53 pm in reply to: Long wait time when toggling from other software to MC 8.3It could be AMA database scanning and it’s possible that was one of the improvements in V8.3.1
On standalone systems (non shared storage) the AMA management doesn’t bring anything at all and in fact causes issues for some users.
There is a console command to disable it (but I don’t think it’s persistent)so the best option is to manually delete the AMA databases
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\AMA ManagementAnd do that periodically.
It’s not that Avid will rebuild them as needed. They are created every time you AMA link. They are not recreated unless you ama link something again.

April 30, 2015 at 12:34 pm in reply to: Long wait time when toggling from other software to MC 8.3We found the move to NC V8.3.1 was a big help. Breaks AS-11 export but performance improved.

April 29, 2015 at 4:18 pm in reply to: Long wait time when toggling from other software to MC 8.3There have been lots of issues with the BM drivers and toggling in and out of Avid.
It’s like Avid has to claw back focus from the driver.Be interesting to see if toggling to software mode (gear icons on timeline) first and then leave Avid and come back and see if that helps. If so it’s the 3rd party I?O and or driver.
Also in the BM driver control panel try changing the option for what it does when it leaves an application (I think it’s a black frame or hold last frame choice)Pat Horridge

That lists all media by project and allows copy move delete.

March 29, 2015 at 9:20 am in reply to: Compression gives interviewee red nose! What am I doing wrong???I’d agree with Michael. Shooting under exposed isn’t helpful.
Your Y B-Y R-Y data has low quantising levels and lifting the gain just stretches the steps.
You do better shooting well exposed and add grain if you want the film mullered look.Pat Horridge
