The vulnerabilities in QT are now exposed and known. A large user base has it installed and are reluctant to move away from it.
This is a hackers dream.

So if you System is completely off the internet then less of a worry.
If you are connected to the internet then you are taking a big risk.

I’d not wait until news of hacks spreads to be considering how to respond.

Rather than do one massive consolidate task why not do it in smaller bite sizes.

If you select a batch of clips and move to a temp bin 01 then set off a background consolidate.
Then do the same with the next batch into a new bin temp bin 02 and set off another background consolidate.
And so forth.

Should you have an issue only the current bin will need sorting. Those that completed are done. Those not started need to be re-started (but often after a restart the background process restarts fine.

Background processing at least has a queue you can monitor and restart.

As said they are just clips.
Avid allows stereo tracks as well as mono tracks. You obviously can’t move clips between different types of clips.
Like all powerful tools Avid needs to be learnt to get the best from it.
I’d suggest a 3 day MC101 course as the fastest way ti understand the key skills.
It takes 3 days of solid instructor led training to begin to get to grips.

With smart tool enabled just click to select the audio element of the clip. (ensure the grouping option is off above the smart tool selection or you will select Video and audio. But that shouldn’t happen if the audio has no video)
When you click if you have both yellow and red arrows enabled in the smart tool you should see the arrow yellow when hovering at the bottom of the clip and red at the top.
Yellow will cause the clip to move in a ripple insert manner. red is overwrite.
Once selected just click and drag up or down to move between tracks.
The ctrl key will latch the clip in position if you need to maintain its timing. Alt will cause it to duplicate the clip.

Simple test to do.
Create new project and drag a few clips from media tool into a fresh bin.
Do they play ok? If not its an issue with playing the media. If ok then its project or seq issues.
Go back to original seq.
Do source clips play ok (no seq loaded)?
If yes then load a seq and find a stuutering section. Match frame and play source. If no good clear seq. Then try source.

Read the documentation.
Better yet do an Avid MC101 course.
Great manual and instruction.
If using Avid is important to you then investing in understanding it should be important as well.
Before Avid introduced the T S C inficators we had just a green dot. Far from helpful.

If you use the source setting option to change the clips frame rate from its native fps to the projects fps you are telling MC to ignore the fps of the clip and play it at the project fps.
So for a 29.97fps clip in a 25fps project you are playing the clip way slower than it was shot. Audio is slowed as well but not pitch-shifted.
That would extend the runtime of each clip. I can’t imagine that’s what you needed.

If you import you frame blend convert to the project framerate.
If you have to import (AMA is better) then make a 29.97fps project, import to that, no framerate conversion, copy bins to 25fps project.
Or best to AMA clips so no framerate conversion. Cut clips to timeline and MC adds a motion adapter that the editor can change the properties.

As Michael says.
Sounds like full scale levels not being mapped to 709 levels on the way in.
Scopes scopes scopes.
Even without scopes in colour correction mode you can bring up Y waveform and see out of range levels shown in white instead of green.
Source settings of AMA clips shows histogram of levels and markers for 16 and 235. Plus the color adapter to correct.

Basically it looks like folk are:

Uninstalling QT.
Re-associating all QT files with another player (like VLC)
Disabling QT browser plugins
Re-installing QT but only the core component. Not the player or the optional components.
Block QT in your firewall.

That allows some QT functionality but reduces the risks.
