2.5hrs of content on a single layer DVD will look awful. And conpressor isn’t great for MPG encodes.
I’d sxale to SD and ensure the correct fps first. Then check that file. Then encode but I’d do it in parts over multuple disks. Don’t go dual layer as compatability on the players sucks.

March 23, 2017 at 8:29 am in reply to: Replacing edited MXFs for multiple days of a shoot.

Do a video mixdown guide of you current sequence and cut to a track above in the timeline.
Select the faulty master clips in their bin and hit delete. In the option that pops up select just the media not the master clip itself. Then ok.
The master clips will go media offline and you will have media offline in seq but not guide.
Now drop the new transcoded media in the Avid Media files folder as normal and reestart Avid. It should all pop back to life. But at worst you will need to bring tge new clips into a new bin and tgen relink to sequence.

March 15, 2017 at 8:33 am in reply to: Avid MC to Final Cut Pro 7 – Automatic Duck

Automatic Duck was great for its time. But even then you’d have issues for complex projects.
To re open all that and potentally more is just daft.
Move on drop FCP legacy. You can download and use Avid free for 30 days.

  • I never move projects up versions.
Always create a fresh new project ( Same name)
Then copy bins across from the old project to the new.
And even more important create a new user profile.
Pretty sure that will cure your issue.

How do you calculate that percentage?
They are either bankrupt or they arent. Its black and white.

February 28, 2017 at 9:08 am in reply to: Should I be finishing in AVID or DaVinci?

You don’t end up with just an H264 surely?
An uncompressed master or DPX? DCP or JPEG2K?
Whats the point in so much effort for an H264?

Access to the RAW is useful if you need to access content lost in the debayer process.

As said for features its Avid offlne then grading and direct out. No round trip.

For broadcast a lot just grade in Avid but some round trip. The real laugh is I’ve never had an issue matching a late shot replacement using an Avid to grade to match the Resolve grade.

February 19, 2017 at 9:02 am in reply to: Lost source file path and source file name

Adding a tape name kills off source path and source name. Maybe somebody has tried to modify the clips.
I presume you have kept daily backups of the project? So you shoukd be able to track back to a version tgat has got the source data intact. Export an ALE and merge import into the current projects bin.
Thats why keeping backups is critical.

  • You need to deselect tge linked clip option. Top leftish of timeline view.
It defaults to on and ensures that when either video or audio are selected its related track elements are selected. Turn this off and you achieve what you want.

February 11, 2017 at 6:36 pm in reply to: Import of Pro Res footage loses embedded Timecode

The best way is to AMA link the footage afresh (AMA is what you should have done anyway.
Check the AMA clips timecodes match the source clips.
Eye match each clip and replace edit rebuilding the timeline clip by clip.
A post house would have a runner or an edit assistant do it.

Its the price you end up paying for not taking care of timecode and doing mini conforms as the job progressed.
