Yep, in theory it’ll make any color grading look better. I mainly convert to prores because it works faster and smoother in fcpx in my experiences.

Haven’t used T3i footage, but I have used a lot of 60D footage, which shoots in the same codec and frame rates.
I always have optimized media when importing into FCPX, because my 2008 aluminum macbook couldn’t handle non optimized well.
With optimized footage everything went well. I ran into one problem that was an organizational thing where I moved clips around from different events that had the same name but on different reels and it really messed stuff up. I had to start over. But I think that is regardless of the camera. I can elaborate more on that if you want.
I just got a new MBP Retina, and it is WAY faster, FCPX is so smooth and seamless even editing off of a USB 3 drive. I still have been using optimized media though.
Here are some examples:

This was shot on a 7D (still the same framerates and codecs) and 60D and used ALOT of 60fps both conformed to 24 (to slow it down) and unchanged (to make it look normal speed). All of the color correction here was done in FCPX too, including the secondary corrections (there was no blue skies in the original footage). Secondary corrections are quick and easy. The VFX were done in AE though. All of the later stuff on this channel was cut & color corrected in FCPX:

Interesting Article…
Haven’t used Pixelmator, hype, or sketch before.
I do like FCPX, Motion and Aperture though.
IMO Motion does not compete with AE, motion is great for doing small graphics here or there, but not great for any VFX work.
AE has so much plugin support (between video copilot and red giant etc) and so many tutorials online I actually found it easier to learn.
Also, this list of budget items is great if your a college student trying to make a kickass short film, but if your working with clients you want to have all the top tools available.

True auditions!!! But does this bog down the timeline after 7 or 8 edits are added?

How do you increment compound clips? Unless you select all make a new compound clip in the event window then paste? Seems like added steps. Also does duplicating the project duplicate all of the render files?

You need to use the cinema tools app to conform your footage to whatever frame rate you want to edit in to get that true slow motion look.
Duplicate your footage before conforming. I’m not sure if it will create a new copy

Part of why it looks odd is because the lighting looks unnatural based on the background. You could try blurring the background to simulate a shallow depth of field and maybe scale up the subject a tad.

Hardly expensive.. Great price for what looks pretty useful tools. I wonder how this will compare to ray trace for things like 3d text

Try
File>Publish Template. I was able to take a logo I made and bring it right into FCPX. Although it counted as a generator so I’m not sure if this is what you want to do, if you have a bunch of clips or not. Although it may help if it is just one.Pat Harris

You guys are both reasons why I have confidence in FCPX. (not trying to make this into an argument forum about FCPX lol). All I mean is that more people like you will continue to create effects/plugins for the new final cut and will draw people in. The more people the more support apple will give. I actually love FCPX so far if you look past the shortcomings that is, so much raw potential. But I think the new way that motion and Final Cut interact is THE reason this will be an amazing editing tool once the kinks get worked it.
