no it’s an Audio-Technica AT8015 shotgun. Yes, I know that they both have low input issues when paired up. And yes, I also know that the Rode D-power is discontinued. What I’m trying to do is find a solution.
thanks

yeah all batteries/cables are new. I hooked up the mic to a friend’s studio preamp and the mic works great. It’s only when I hook it up with the h4n that I get low audio levels. I was hoping someone would have a suggestions as to whether there was a preamp adapter, or a specific shotgun mic that works well with the h4n.
any insight/suggestions would be appreciated!

Right on, thanks for the input! I think the reason I was struggling with the decision to downsize was because, despite its weight, it’s a VERY solid tripod and I’ve never had to worry about it tipping over during camera movements. But my concern was that if I did downsized, I would end up dealing with bigger issues than weight, like tipping, smoothness, etc..
I’m going to stick with my Tripod and look into a Monopod for those “on the go” moments.
Thanks again!

That was pretty much the case. Oh well, great lessons has been learned. Now I’ve got time to focus on my other editing projects.
Thanks again!

Thanks, Nick. That if is indeed a VERY big IF. The short film was pretty much a personal project (he was producer, director, lead actor (1 of 2 roles) and now, editor) for the purpose of kickstarting his stagnant career as an actor.
Anyways, from what I gathered, he felt that my choice in shots in the edit didn’t really showcase his talent. I made it known that my main goal was to create an edit that told a clear and engaging story, obviously, using the best takes. He didn’t care for that and decided he could do a better job.
Live and learn! Thanks again for the advice!

Got it. Thanks so much for your help. I’ve definitely learned a lesson in this.

Thank you all for the feedback/insight! Very helpful.
Ultimately, using the footage isn’t a big deal for me. As an aspiring editor, I’ve got other material I’m working on that I can add to my portfolio, some paid, some free. It was more about the principle. The fact that I worked hard on it and when I asked if I could use the work I’ve done thus far, for FREE, he reacted in such a threatening manner.
So anyways, I very much agree that I should take it as a lesson and move on.
BUT.. do any of you have suggestions on how I can prevent this from happening again?? I know things will happen sometimes, but are there any tips I should keep in mind for future work?
thanks again!

That’s what I though as well!
I guess I just want to make sure that even if I don’t have his final approval, I’m still in the right to use the edit work I’ve done for my personal reel.
Thanks!

oh yeah, my bad!
It turns out that because I had installed Logic BEFORE Final Cut, the system assumed that FC was already installed in my computer due to a slight overlap in programming. So the unchecked boxes (see above image) are what my comp assumed was already installed when it wasn’t.
Since I had just erased my drive and installed Snow Leopard, the only think on my comp was Logic. I figured I would just repeat the process, but this time install Final Cut FIRST, then Logic.
I have since done that and everything is working correctly!
