Dave,
I totally understand.
My card is an ATI one of very basic ones…I am not at home and can’t remember the exact model.
As far as increasing my ram…..that has been a thought to bring it up to 10Gb but why does AE only uses 33% of my total ram power? my main issue is with the preview on my system I can even move an object without AE freezing and taking its sweet time to move it, amking the cretiveprocess very frustrating. At work I have a new mac pro 8 core and so far the anims I created fly either in preview and render, but when I look at the usage it still says it’s only using 33%. Am I looking at the wrong thing?
Thanks

Walter thanks,
Yes I am aware of the power PC vs mac pro performance difference with FCP 6, but i have 5.1. I guess that’s just the way is gonna be ’til I upgrade my system, although some plug ins are card based..aren’t they? Thanks

Rafael,
I rendered it in 10bit and it took hours….also my mac struggles playing it back vs 8bit even after I have lowered the settings, but that’s not much concern as I need that for DVD. I am compressing it now….16hrs….. I also had to export the 10 bit to apply a 16:9 mask cause I had noticed that the transitions would spread all over the the 4:3 frame and it didn’t look good.thanks for all your help!

Thanks Rafael!
I still have FCP 5.1.4, and I have heard that 10 bit has a lot of bugs. Will 8 bit still work?
Should I apply that filter to the subtitles as well? or just export a dv timeline an then re open it apply the filter and the re render as 8 bit?
thanksPaolo

Thanks Rafael,
I appreciate your help!
Yes DV is definitely easier to work with, I just want to render in 8 bit so to have better looking subtitles cause in DV no matter what I make them with (livetype-AE) they still look fuzzy after export, but when I do in 8 bit they are super clean.
I have tried to change the aspect ratio in QT on the settings but I can’t get it to look right.
Thanks again.Paolo

Chris,
Thanks.
I have noticed that when I do that (just change the compressor setting) I only have to re render a few clips, but when I do a new set up then a new sequence I have to render the whole timeline.
do you know why?
thanks

Which format do you want to export them as? AIF WAVE, QT reference….
in any case just place them on the timeline and go to export-
