Video Card
Hello everyone,
I am in need of a new graphics card, my FCP is TREMENDOUSLY slow when it comes down to render multiple layers and effects. I have a dual PPC G5 and 4.5Gb of ram. My current card is a stock one that came with the mac.
Does anyone have any suggestions for something that is cost effective as well as performance effective? and something that can also help with AE?Thanks

Currently the graphics card does very little in FCP to help with Rendering. That’s all processors now.
The Dual G5’s are very slow for working with the current versions of FCP, especially if you’re doing a lot of layering.

Yes I am aware of the power PC vs mac pro performance difference with FCP 6, but i have 5.1. I guess that’s just the way is gonna be ’til I upgrade my system, although some plug ins are card based..aren’t they?Thanks

Only FX-Plugs are card based and I think that started with FCP 6.0.
