Brett, normally I would not care, except this current job is 44 2-5 min WEB Vids and I reuse a lot of parts from different programs, so I switch programs (sorry Projects) to grab short parts and past into the current Project.

Normally I would just use compound clips but in this case it is not that consistent.

    Yes thanks Bret.

I figured there had to be a way.

It would be nice if you could choose what was in the history though. Wouldn’t it be nice if they were just tabbed, with a close button and draggable order. I will post a suggestion to Apple.

December 26, 2013 at 2:06 pm in reply to: Question about thunderbolt storage & RAID

The best fast and redundant RAID is level 5 or above. These cost more and use more drives but are redundant and fast.

If you can only afford RAID 0 then using your slower USB drives to either manually or automatically back up your working RAID is easy, just do it after each working session.

You can use TimeMachine to do this automatically if you do custom settings or lots of other automated BU programs. The only down side is that it works best to do this after each day, so you are vulnerable if a drive fails during a working session.

  • I would go with a show controller and 3 digital players.

Gilderfluke.com is a great source for these video installations.

I have done them lots of times even back in the 90’s using tape decks. Later DVD players (pro RS232 controllable ones). Now solid state players are the best.

Look them up and give them a call.

These systems will even control room lighting, fans, shakers, animatronics, run attract loops and then when a motion sensor is triggered start a “show”.

Editing together is easy, just do a master screen with 3 small screens (PIP) and when it is right make each screen its own .mov and export as separate files.

Does the 5 hrs include the upload? Or is it just the compression before upload?

Your internet connection will not be faster with a new MP. My iMac will compress a 1 hr show for Vimeo 720 30p in about 30 minutes. The upload takes about 3 hrs with my 20mbit connection (that is fast here in NH anyway).

Even my MBP is almost real time maybe 1.5 or 2x to compress for Vimeo.

  • Scopebox is a lot more than just a plugin. It is a recorder and a set of very flexible scopes as well as a preview monitor.

Used like I do in my screen shot there is no lag at all and it does not seem to effect FCPX playback speed at all. At least with my MBP, as maxed as you can order them. Slower GPU drive CPU combos may not perform as eel, I don’t know.

On my big edit suite I run external scopes along with a Pro eval Monitor.

I often use it as an external set of scopes to set up green screen etc, using a BM SDI to TB Decklink or my MX02 on my MBP.

I think there is a free trial version to test before you buy.

Brett I agree on the pricing.

I have used the app now for more than 8 years I think. I would have to check back to know exactly.

Back then it was fantastic you could use it as scopes for your NLE when none of them really had them. And as a studio set of scopes just by fire wire out from a camera. Scopebox has always also been able to record, this is not very important now.

I think I payed 3-400 bucks for it originally v1 and i think I only paid for one update, the last batch of updates has been free.

Maybe they could market a “light” version just for scopes internally. Now it really is a replacement for external scopes. That is somewhat dated by modern dvl monitors with scopes built in.

Problem solved, it was as I suspected a plugin problem in my case ScopeLink.

Both the apple tech and I could not find it, and it is strange a new user solved the problem but the plugin is not in the user level library.

    It is in the main
    /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/FCP-DAL
    and in the
    /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL
    folders

I removed it ad now everything is OK.

The plugin will be fixed soon, I talked with DivergentMedia tech just now.

[Jeremy Garchow] “Do you just have the scopes positioned behind the FCPX layout?

Is this using ScopeLink? How does that work, is it a filter?”

Yes I use ScopeLink. And I just put the scope layout usually parade – WF – VS.

You can resize and customize any way you want. Lots of different scopes and even preview (that I never use in ScopeBox.

Scopelink is just an output chosen in FCPX prefs.

I put the Scopebox app at the bottom behind FCPX, and just shorten the hight of FCPX just enough to see the scopes. They could also be on a different screen if you like.

If I output to my SDI interface then I don’t use SB for scopes, I use real scopes, looped through my eval monitor. Though you could if you looped the signal back into a MBP using a Black Magic Decklink. And then it is really a perfect for very critical calibration. This also is great on location or in the studio.
