If I read the PDF correct, “any type of hard drive setup is possible to use”. Not the correct phrase, but the idea is something like that. They even mention FireWire 800 as an option! They mention this under the RED r3d Decoding part.
“(…)the Mac Pro’s limitation of four PCIe slots will necessitate the use of an internal storage software RAID, a FireWire 800 drive, or both
I use an eSATA RAID. I should be able to add and use that to the list of disks, just like I can see any other disk in Finder.
As for the fifth disk
The PDF states: “We recommend installing a fifth disk under the optical drive”….. -
I’d guess it’s due to the limited space on the expansion slot side of any Mac Pro. As far as I know, Decklink HD EXtreme sends signals through SDI, HDMI and component at the same time. I’d be surprised if you can’t use any of those.
The tiny small holes on the Mac.. hmm.. Wonder if there’s an HDMI cable small enough to fit through one of those. Then you could connect the cable directly to the Decklink card.

You can’t physically use the license two places at a time. The license is handled with a USB dongle.

I believe Peter Chamberlain wrote about this. Both the GTX285 and Quadro can deliver the speed and performance needed. But the Quadro can stay longer in the game with more nodes and still play real-time, due to more RAM.
If price is an issue, I’d try to get the GTX285 asap before they’re nowhere to find.

What ? My GTX285 makes LESS noise than the old 8800GT.

The minimum requirements posted elsewhere in this forum states that both cards need to be nVidia cards.

August 27, 2010 at 8:45 am in reply to: Multiple GPU’s work fine with Color…on my system at least…DaVinci is based on nodes, right? You have different types of nodes, and I would be surprised if you can’t do what Color does just with those nodes in DaVinci.
One node can hold up to four power windows, you can even use selectors to separate one color from the rest of the image, and still use those power windows. Track them all.. just wow.. Think about it!
You can blur, sharpen, “mist”, rotate, scale, you name it. All those settings in each node. I’m having a hard time understanding the possibilities.

1. edit
2. export EDL
3. add media to project and cut it to pieces with EDL
4. if there’s a new version of the EDL, your previous grades will transfer to the new timelineIf the show is delivered as a master QT file, you can use Scene cut to let DaVinci go through the file and give you a jump start. No cutting in FCP is needed.. And you could save an EDL of the cutting DaVinci does.
You should read up on the manual, even though it’s for Resolve 6, it’s quite valuable to spend some time with it.
