Hi Shane, thanks, that worked. But it wont play! Just finished burning it, which took 2 hours. Watched the preview as it burned, and the disc looks burned and almost full. NONETHELESS it won’t play. When I click “Play movie,” it just opens the title screen again. WTF?

Ok, made the qt reference file as suggested,but it’s still 6.5 GB….to big for the dvd.

thanks Dave. I read on another post that iDVD only took QT files. will the file type you mentioned work in iDVD?

Actually, I posted to the Cow about the message “Breaks in Cadence detected.” however, before that I was getting the Dropped Frames message so you info is useful, thanks. I am actually capturing to an external drive. Maybe I”ll give it another shot capturing directly to hard drive.

PS Even now that I’m just trying to capture it normally without Advanced Pulldown, it’s still reading one clip as two and giving the “Dropframe media detected” message, splitting the long take into two shorter clips.

Hi Gery,
It gives the message at many points on many tapes. Don’t know if it’s every single one, but it’s so many that it is making digitizing agonizingly slow. I did not reuse tapes, I used new master tapes Panasonic AY-DVM83MQ.

Also, though stopping and starting the shot perhaps is an issue in some instances, it’s not always: right now I’m capturing footage from a performance that is 63 minutes in ONE LONG TAKE. I didn’t start or stop the camera once and I still have the identical message “Breaks in pulldown cadence”. Which is why I thought it might be a problem with my FCP digitizing settings…Also because other small clips on this tape I tried capturing and there is no start/stop and I still receive the message…

Yes it works to capture just a small clip at 29.97 with Advanced Pulldown removal, and the footage comes in at 23.98 as expected. All is well. But the problem is I keep running into the message “Break in Advanced Pulldown Cadence detected,” and clips won’t capture.

Thanks for the info about Rec Check. Problem is with some of the tapes, it was all one shot for 60 minutes, so I’m assuming then that wouldn’t be the problem.

I’m not using Capture Now, I’m logging clips individually.

Do you know what this message means and what to do about it?

Yes, this is the setting I used. When the footage digitizes properly, it comes in at 23.98 as you mentioned.

The problem is that most of the footage will not digitize properly because of the message I keep getting, something like “Break in Pulldown Cadence detected” (original post tell the exact message). This message causes capture to stop. I have the option to Abort or Continue. If I choose continue, when the tape gets to the same place as before, I get the same message, I start all over again, and the clip never gets digitized. This happens at many points on many tapes.

I tried your suggestion of digitizing at 29.97, without Advanced Pulldown removal, then removing it through the Tools Advanced Pulldown removal. But when I do this, again I get the same message “Break in Pulldown Cadence detected,” and the clip is not modified to 23.97.

So it seems the settings are right, it’s just the Break in Pulldown Cadence thing. Do you know what this message means or what to do to fix it?
