And why do you keep calling it the Pana200? That sounds like a vacuum cleaner or some futuristic auto from the ’50s. It’s the HVX200. For someone into raw stats and numbers you should get it right.

Well yes- you would keyframe the opacity property or use the FadeIn/Fade Out behavior. Thumbing through the manual is nice but putting in a few hours and completing the tutorial is the best way to learn the app.

Check out Barefeats.com for specific performance data. If Motion is going to be your chief app- splurge on RAM and Graphics card they are more important than raw processor speed for Motion’s realtime preview. If it’s one notch down on the processor with a better graphics card- that will serve you better with Motion.

Not sure about this but have you considered using behaviors instead? Keyframes are there for heavy duty precise stuff but for something like this you’ll find behaviors much quicker and easier to move around. Just a suggestion from the AFX to Motion refugees.

You’ll get decent Motion performance but nowhere near in the league of the Quad. If I were doing Motion stuff once a week or so the Powerbook would be my thing, but if I wanted to do heavy duty work with it daily I would get the Quad with latest graphics card.

Yeah- gimme a break Jiri. Panasonic’s been up front and above board with the HVX200 every step of the way, following the marketing and release pattern of the original DVX100 almost to the letter. Perhaps it’s just your feverish desire making you a little cuckoo?

A subscription to American Cinematographer magazine or at least pick up the current copy- available at just about any newsstand.
Also the DVD Visions of Light shows a lot of famous cinematographers and how they achieved their images.

Perhaps you could describe what you see in a movie that you don’t see in your DVX100 footage. Saying it doesn’t have that film look is kind of like saying it’s the wrong color. What do you expect that you’re not getting? Better focus? More contrast? Different shutter effects? More color? etc…
