200% is not how the image will look in it’s rendered form- it’s the rendered form blown up by 2X. 100% is how it will look. You should always use images that you will not scale past 100% at 720×480. So for example if you have a still you want to scale up in Motion by 200% it should be imported at no smaller than 1440X960 or you will get some degradation.

The heads are dirty. Use a head cleaner. If that doesn’t help, carefully blow out the tape assembly with canned air and head clean again. If that doesn’t work you need to have the camera serviced. Using it as a feeder deck will make this happen more often as will mixing tape brands.

Umm- no. Not an Avid guy and it depends which Avid you have. I’d suggest mucho research…

You won’t need the capture card- P2 is tranferred via Firewire or USB-2 from the camera or the P2 drive. It would come in handy if you wanted to monitor in HD without using the camera for play through but again not required. I would go for a new Mac- you’ll find it a lot more responsive in HD than the G4. Grabbing a SATA array would also help though you could get away with a FW800 raid too.

It depends on the system- if you have access to a Mac- definitely DVD Studio Pro. On the PC side there’s not really a killer app I know of.

The HVX in 1080p would give an excellent image for plasma. But keep in mind that quality depends a lot on the type of plasma display and how the footage is being fed to it.

You could easily start with the DVCPROHD files copied over from the P2 media and use Avid to create an “offline” version in DV while maintaining references to the originals. Of course the DVCPROHD footage would need to be archived on a hard drive or DLT tape somewhere.
