For that you need an addressable TC deck- which is a heck of a lot more expensive than a DSR-11. I believe options would include the DSR-2000, DSR-1800, DSR-1500, DSR-80, DSR-70. Might want to look into a rent.

Everything will carry over fine except for the original timecode. New timecode will be created- which is not a problem unless you wanted to use a project edited from the old tapes and rebatch with the new. If you don’t know what that means you’re fine.

A clapper board would be fine and sync up in post if this setup fails.

Why RGB? You need to be in YUV space in FCP to avoid these sort of shifts. It’s nothing to do with the integration and everything to do with the settings.

I would suggest rendering out lossless from Motion- it’s a time saver in the long run.

I’ve not yet seen one working within Motion though the realtime feedback would be perfect for motion tracking. SynthEyes and PFHoe are the cheapest standalone trackers I know of.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble but I’d suspect this move by Apple has little to do with Panasonic and everything to do with the fact that PCMCIA is not popular as an interface and ExpressCard opens the door to much more in terms of performance and flexbility. The folks at G-Drive felt slighted to see FW800 go away too so go figure.

Yup- especially as the Apple desktops, which would be my preferred editing platform have never supported PCMCIA in their stock configuration I don’t see the issue here. Adapters will take care of this in due time with the new MacBooks. The current PCMCIA stocked PowerBook models which are more than up to the task of in the field downloading will be available I’d expect through the end of 2006 new and for many years to come on the used market

Motion and After Effects share some capabilities but they are not designed to compete. After Effects excels at complex compositing both in 2d and psuedo 3d. Motion’s strength is motion graphics design and titling in ease of use. They are complementary programs. I used Motion on a recent projects to create simple animated backgrounds and titles, then used After Effects to composite video footage on top of these background. Both products technically could have done the whole project solely but I found the best approach is a little of both. Creating images is a little like cooking, there are many ways to arrive at a tasty meal.
