Project timelines are saved into Libraries. That is what you can open directly, not projects.

Make sure the clips you want to trim are selected first and then Trim Start or Trim End will trim all selected to playhead position. Or Command-A to select all clips first.

Also finding someone who has one of the Blackmagic Teranex boxes would be wise- those are industry standard.

Uninstall and reinstall is as simple as deleting FCPX and redownloading from the App Store. Also you should see the ProVideo codecs update appear in the App Store as a download as well. Or force here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1898?locale=en_US

If I understand correctly it essentially applies OS-level automation onto FCPX and possibly futzes with config files as well. I’ve not heard anyone say so far that it caused any major issues. But I would take the warning to heart as there’s no one to blame/support if it wildly hoses a project/library. Still it does have some tempting features.

are you running in Proxy mode- if so that will affect your exports…

are you sure you’re not exporting in Proxy mode? That’s an easy mistake to make.

Make sure you take a good look at your export settings- some of the destination types have been updated. All outputs are looking at least as good as previous versions to my eyes/monitors.
