Open the original clip in the event browser then look at its channel configuration in the inspector. If you don’t see any dropdown menu then it’s a single channel mono file- really that simple.

Are you sure that’s the camera original? Because the channel config is basically the same:

If you’re not seeing option to view a clip as dual mono the channels may not be present in the clip.

Depends- are you capturing directly from a camera card or receiving clips already ingested?

Trimmed project consolidation can’t be done with the current version of Final Cut Pro X. However there is a brand-new app from Marquis that will do the trick nicely. More details here:

HD has to be 16:9. Also why not upgrade to 10.3.2- the MXF support is improved.
