Get a Mac. You can always run Windows on it via Boot Camp or whatever if you get cold feet. But not the reverse of course…

Editors at the major feature/TV level often have the luxury to be defined by their storytelling skills as they are backed up by an army of assistants who can adapt the workflow to whichever NLE is in use on a particular project. At the freelancer level, editors often need to be more specialized in a particular NLE in order to obtain gigs that state it as a requirement. Rhetoric aside that’s a practical reality.

Yep I would instead invest in a labeled custom FCPX keyboard. Remapping everything to Avid would be dicey at best plus everytime you go edit on a stock install of FCPX you’ll be completely lost. That said if you *insist* on the square peg into round hole approach- I’ll bet a Google search for Avid FCPX key mappings might yield something.

Hmm- as I’ve never seen that before in 4 years I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s system specific. Resetting prefs and/or deleting and re-downloading the FCPX app will likely clear it out.
