So are you saying you don’t want to have an empty V1 track on your record side? If so, what is the reason for that? Does it matter if you keep an empty V1?

What would happen if you added back the V1 in the B-roll you’re using as source? Then when you cut over to a new sequence at least the picture should land on V2. You would still have an empty V1 though. But easy to delete that once you’re done building that sequence. Eliminates the step of creating V2 and moving everything up. You might have to change the setting for new sequences to create two video tracks as Glenn suggested.

  • Thanks for the replies.

I’ve moved out all Avid folders to another drive when I installed the various versions since the uninstall process leaves behind many Avid items. No changes from before or after moving.

It was interesting to me finding that folder. I didn’t know it existed. Something to probably clean out from time to time…

  • EDIT –

Okay, I see it for a picture clip but it’s greyed out for audio clips. So is there really no way to relink an audio clip that was AMA’d? That’s weird!

I’m having the asst who synced the dailies try transcoding the audio clips to see if he can send me the Avid media for the audio so I can get the audio online then transcode the picture. Do you know offhand if the audio he will send me should link up on my end? We’re in different states so looking for a fast solution without having to resync everything.

We are in the process of doing a test on two clips now.

“The reason I used premiere to sync is that the video files that had a reference track, had very low volume and where clipped at the same time.”

Perhaps you could have done same in Avid, I don’t know, I don’t usually have to do the syncing, but it’s worth a look.

So did they not use a slate/sticks for the footage? If yes, and you can’t sync automatically using waveforms or timecode, it’s not that time consuming to mark the sticks on both picture and sound in Avid then using ‘auto sync’ > ‘sync by inpoints’ to create your synced clip. Map a key on your keyboard for the ‘auto-sync’ command to make it faster, then select each picture and audio that goes together, hit your mapped key and repeat for each clip.

Have you tried unchecking some things when manually relinking? Such as ‘only link to media in current project” or something like that? You can also uncheck the case sensitive option. Sometimes changing a couple of those makes a difference, especially the project one since the new media isn’t associated with your project (I believe).

Also, make sure that you are asking it to load the media databases.

For syncing you don’t have to use the timeline. If you use the timeline then you have to subclip before auto syncing.

If your picture and sound have the same timecode you can just put all of it in one bin then select Auto Sync, select to sync by Source Timecode and it will make all your synced clips.

If you don’t have matching timecode you can mark all the slates on each clip them Auto Sync them using Inpoints.

Whichever way you do it, you still need to check each clip, especially if you do it by timecode since sometimes there’s a glitch with the sync jam.

  • Thanks Brent, good to know!

  • Thanks Michael!

  • Ah… thanks!

  • Great. Thanks for the quick response Shane!
